We were travelling cross country in a VW Jetta TDI and stopped overnight in
Sheridan. The next morning when I fueled up the car, it suddenly became
difficult to steer. I discovered a bad power steering leak, but couldn't tell
exactly where it was coming from. I wasted time at the nearest auto repair
shop waiting for them to look at it and determine what was wrong. When they
failed to meet their promised deadline (we were also on a deadline), I took it
to Plains Tire. In spite it being about noon on Friday, they agreed to look at it
and determine what was wrong. We both agreed that any necessary parts
would not be found in Sheridan. I was not surprised by this, it's a small, rural
town, mostly pickups and American cars. Within an hour and a half they'd
managed to get to it and determine what parts were needed. Their suppliers
told them it would probably be the middle of next week to ship! I suggested
an online auto parts supply specializing in German cars (Autohausaz.com),
which they weren't aware of, and they let me use their computer to look up
the part. When he saw the price and when it would ship, he told me to buy it
direct and ship to them. They repaired the car the day they got the part.
I found them to be very responsive and cooperative, especially with someone
with a very unusual car (for Sheridan Wyoming), and unlikely to ever be back.
Their repair bill was also better than I expected compared to repairs where I
live.
I wouldn't hesitate to try them again.
