The owner, Mike Schmitt, is a very gifted mechanic with integrity and conscientiousness. His prices are reasonable. He goes out of his way in an emergency, when possible. I've been extremely satisfied over the years and wouldn't take my bus anywhere else. He's also very good at rebuilding the engine, when necessary.

Don't look for a sign. It is an alley operation, but you won't get screwed. He is a classical pianist, so don't talk down to him.

I've been taking my '77 VW convertible to Mike for over 7 years now. Everything from regular maintenance to an engine rebuild. I'm not very mechanically - oriented myself, but he always takes the time to explain what needs doing and why, and - what I can do to keep bad things fom happening again. His shop - run out of his garage in a residential neighborhood is always immaculate. Always willing to help, he once even diagnosed my car over the phone (he listened while I tried to turn it over and it wouldn't start) He told me the problem and how to fix it ( I was in a mall parking lot) and presto! I was on my way. If you have an air-cooled VW, bring it to Mike - you won't be sorry.
