I showed up at Schmitz Exxon on a Saturday afternoon with what turned out to be a broken axle. Although this is a small service station, they had the part in stock, replaced the axle--I waited about an hour and a half, which I thought was quite reasonable for a busy weekend--and charged me just under $200 bucks. I was totally stuck and they could absolutely have gouged me but didn't. If I lived closer, or they were near public transportation, they'd be my mechanics.

Had only one problem with their work- and I'm not sure it was their fault or the part. Always been on time, and prices were reasonable (especially for the area). Not really close to transport; but willing to drive you to the metro or even to work if it isn't too far. Been pleasant to deal with.

While the bus system in Fairfax County isn't the best, they aren't far from several bus routes, and when the silver line is finally in place, they'll be very convenient to the metro. We had two cars that were constantly being brought in to these guys as they reached the end of their useful years. They were always honest and open about what was wrong, and in the case of my Chevy they could have easily milked us for hundreds or thousands in repairs, but instead took a look at the engine, told us it wasn't worth it because we could buy a used car cheaper than we could fix it, and sent us on our way. Dealerships in the area charge over $100 just for a diagnostic, but these guys have reasonable prices and good customer service.

I had my truck towed to Schmitz Exxon, because my radiator blew. The temperature gauge reached red hot levels, and I had to drive a few miles to get to a safe location. I was afraid that engine damage may have resulted. Schmitz diagnosis was that only the radiator needed to be replaced, but no engine repairs were needed. They were honest, professional and friendly.

Our daughter and her friend broke down near Dulles Airport in our Saturn wagon. The tow company towed them to Schmitz Exxon where Al, the manager, made a correct diagnosis of the problem (fuel pump), called us to explain the situation, and told us that they could have them on the road in a matter of hours, much to our relief. Al then volunteered to drive them to a Metro station so that they could visit with a relative while the car was repaired. We were very pleased with the service and professionalism we received.
