Specialty is cooling system and A/C, but they perform all general repairs as well. They replaced the motor in my Mazda pickup four years ago and it's still going strong. They give solid recommendations for work they don't do, eg, exhaust & alignment. In particular, it's a pleasure working with Billy, the service manager, and he makes sure that Mike does all the work on my cars. Really a great pair of guys and I trust them implicitly. Very highly recommend these folks.

I have always found them to be honest. Billy takes time to explain the repairs needed. They accomodate a customer's time frame and are able to adjust their schedule when an emergency car repair is needed. They have been my mechanic for the past 15 years - won't go anywhere else.

Last year I moved away from my mechanic of 15 years (sob). After I moved, I would drive 3 hours to his shop to have work done. I finally decided that was absurd and looked for a shop nearby. I found Bill Smith's shop listed on the Car Talk website, and since it's less than 1/2 mi from my home, I decided to give it a try. I went there for the first time today for an oil change. I also asked them to check the tires and the brakes for wear. I'm a middle aged woman with advanced degrees in engineering who did all the repairs on my own cars for years (remind me sometime to tell you about changing out an alternator [generator?]on a Volvo 544 in 5 F weather in 1973...), but they didn't know that. For all they knew I was a dumb blond, so they had plenty of opportunity to take advantage of me. Other than the oil change taking too long (1.5 hrs), these guys were great: polite, no BS, and no extra work recommended. I plan to return to them for future work and hope to have a long happy relationship.
