My 1994 Thunderbird was leaking fluid from the cooling system and the mechanic who does most of my work said it was due to a worn gasket in the timing chain housing, a repair that was more than he wanted to take on. His shop is small and he told me that he has sent many of these size jobs to Shaner's - mainly because they fix things right the first time and he has never had anyone come back with a complaint. Anyway, I called Shaner's and the first thing he recommended was that I contact Ford or their dealers and ask if there were any technical bulletins or recalls on this problem. So I called some of the local dealers and they all said there were no recalls. Also, they were all very close in price on the repairs - replacing the gasket - but none were interested in explaining what was involved or any of the possible extra work that may be needed. Shaner explained that although replacing the gasket would stop the leak, a car with 65,000 mi. should also replace the timing chain and gears, since most of the cost was going to be in labor at getting to the housing. Anyway, I ended up having Shaner change out all the extras at the same price the dealers were charging just for the gasket. My car was ready in 4 days and it was as clean as I left it, with no grease or oily handprints anywhere. I feel confident that I was treated fairly and if anything goes wrong, Jimmy will stand behind his work 100%.

Jim Shaner is an honest guy. This shop never tried to get me to do any work that wasn't really needed. And they offered to loan me a car without my asking and without any charge. Great guys. I wish I still lived in Lynchburg, so I would always have them to go to.

I found Shaner's on this website, and I cannot recommend it enough. I am so grateful for their honesty and they were the best price around. They solved a problem that has plagued me for months, even after getting it "fixed" other places. Just an all-around great place if you need any work done.

We moved here in 1992. We have had four cars since we moved here and they have done excellent work on them when needed. This is an established shop and well respected. If you take your car to a closer to home shop and they have a problem with it, they send you to Shaner's. This is my husband's home town and we came here when we retired and knew of Shaner's reputation and we used to drive 200 miles to have our major work done here. They have a fenced, wired lot if you have to leave your car more than one day and the neighborhood is very safe in the daytime and well policed at night. Being a woman, this is very important to me. My husband is now handicapped and I am not the sole driver and they treat me the same as they would a man. They also tell you when something will need work or replacement in the near future but you have time before it is necessary. I give them my highest recommendation.
