Over the last 10 years or so they've worked on 5 different cars for my family and me...4 Ford/Mercury, 1 Nissan Altima. We've had them do everything from oil changes and battery replacement to alternators, starters, power steering, brake and suspension work, air conditioning and radiator work. They've replaced a Mercury Tempo auto transmission and a Nissan manual trans. w/clutch ass'y. All employees have been courteous, friendly and business- like at the same time. while owner Larry Green and Service Mgr. Pete Ferebee are very good with "Ball Park" estimates and approximate repair times, it is not at all unusual to receive a phone call from the mechanic who has test driven a car, and diagnosed its problem, with an exact assessment of what's needed, an exact cost of repairs and time necessary for completion. They have yet to state what I consider to be an inordinately long time for repairs, and several times have called to say a car was finished before it was promised, or that what appeared to be a major job was something minor. They are a NAPA Certified shop and guarantee most parts and labor for 1 year. To summarize, when my wife or daughter has a car with a mechanical problem, I don't hesitate to have them run it up to Larry Green's...they'll be treated right and given an honest opinion of what's needed. They are located off of Midlothian Turnpike, behind the Arby's just west of Johnston-Willis Hospital.

I worked briefly for a small used car dealership that used Larry Green's for oil changes, state inspections, etc. They occasionally did some more extensive work for that company. The did some steering work on my wife's old Nissan minivan that was gonna cost outrageously at the dealership. Then they worked on an Olds for me. The big test was a 1987, 150,000 mile Buick LeSabre. It was making all sorts of horrible engine scraping and howling noises, DOWN LOW, where the big money is. They replaced a harmonic balance very reasonably when they could have told me practically anything. They're always courteous and straightforward. I get the distinct impression that they would bounce an employee who tried to hose a customer.

The shop is tucked away but in an easy location to get to. The service is good and I can say that I would take my car back for any type of mechanical failure. They understand that the customer does not want to fix everything if they don't have to. They take into consideration the age of the vehicle and what is a safety issue vs what is a cosmetic type fix. They look for alternate solutions and make good decisions as to the fix. My only concern is that several screws were not tightened or missing on both vehicles I had work done on. The screws were for the plastic shields that protect the underside of the engine. I'm sure in their haste to fix the vehicles they just did not remember to tighten or attach the bolts since you could not tell the shields were not secure. Still, God is in the details and so I have to mention this aspect. Overall a good shop to have work done and prices were on average as good as you will get in the area.
