On several occassions, he has performed minor work with no charge. He never charges to just look at a problem. He always calls before doing a "tear down" or a repair that was not already discussed. The man has the integrity to sometimes say, "It ain't worth fixin!"

I have done business with McCollum's for over 20 years. I would echo the comments of the first reviewer. This isn't the cheapest Mechanic in town, but they're as honest as they come. He won't do work that isn't needed and approved. He will tell you when it isn't worth fixing. He's fixed many minor problems without charging a dime.

I send my wife, daughter (26), and mother (84) to him and
tell them that you can trust him and his shop. I have done
business with them for 20+ years and will keep going back.

I took my car to McCollum's pretty convinced that my master
cylinder needed to be replaced -- which would be very
expensive. After talking to the guy when I dropped it off,
he thought it might be something else -- less expensive but
still very pricey. Upon picking up the car though, the
problem turned out to be something far less expensive than
either I or the guy behind the counter thought. I'm a
female. They could have just let me go on believing it was
my master cylinder or some other expensive repair, but they
were very honest with me and told me exactly what had been
wrong and the repair cost was an excellent value. I love
McCollum's!

I took my truck in to have the a/c charged. They replaced the a/c hoses with plain hose and clamps and recharged the system. A week later it had leaked and no longer cooled. It took it back and they informed me that the wrong hoses had been used. They replaced the hoses with correct pressure hoses and recharged the system. They charged me for the hoses, the second recharge and full labor again. They refused to adjust for their mistake. I ended up paying double for the job. Needless to say, I haven't been back.
