I recently moved to Austin, TX from Albany, NY. I needed a new inspection,
which we know can be a basis for all manner of "necessary work", and a solution
to brake pedal "shudder" ( warped rotors I figured ) as well as general opinion of
condition and safety, etc. on my 2000 I-30t with 168,000 plus miles on it. The
work was done well, timely, without "upselling", and the bill was less than the
estimate ( $429 v. $460 ). Mike pointed out the brake pads were fine and could
be re-installed on the new rotors. I'd go there again "in a NY minute" and
recommend his business to anyone!

After dealing with them for a while, you can go in and
they know you by name. They have been in business since
1966. Once, when they replace my brake calipers and they
wore out way to soon, they replaced them free. Recently I
had problems with not being to close the doors on my truck
because of a latch problem, so I called them, and they
walked me through fixing the problem for free. Their web
site is http://www.gordonautomotive.com/.

I've been taking my vesicles to Gordon since moving to
Austin in early 2005 (I located them via these Mechanic
Files). They're not the cheapest shop around, but I've
never had any problems with their staff or quality of the
work. I've never had any reason to doubt their honesty or
competence. Great folks. They always take the time to
answer any questions I have, or even show me exactly on the
car what they have a concern about. The one time they did
make a small error, they apologized and took care of it
immediately, no issues or charges. I've directed a few
coworkers to them and they (my coworkers) have also been
very pleased.
Highly recommended shop.

I took my ford explorer to them for the first time. They
were able to get it in and fixed in a short time. I told
them I only had the one car and they offered to take me
home and pick me up. The repair was minor and was
reasonably priced. Being a woman, I get tired of getting
overcharged just because they think I don't know anything -
this was not the case here. Honest and kind, I'll go back.

Be prepared to PAY PREMIUM PRICES. These guys are not
looking to save you money. They have a rather large garage
and I suspect rather large overhead.

I called to get a quote for a shock/strut replacement that I had self-diagnosed as the problem with my clunking/rattling rear suspension. They wouldn't confirm over the phone and said they wouldn't charge to take a quick look at the suspension on the lift but didn't want to quote me for something I might not need. A cheap trick to bring me in and "get me" as a customer...or so I thought. I took the car in a week later, they checked it out, offered me a ride if I needed to get somewhere (I waited instead) and took a look within 10 minutes. I waited for a total of 30 minutes from the time I walked in until they were done. They diagnosed the problem as a loose bolt in the suspension that was making the noise, tightened it down to spec, and didn't charge me a dime. It would have been very easy for them to sell me a strut/shock and take advantage of my misdiagnosis, but they were honest, friendly, quick, and best of all FREE! I will definitely be talking all my cars there from here on out. I can't recommend them highly enough.
