I've been going to Underground for years, as have other VW owners I know. They are extremely competent and thorough. Their motto is "home of metaphysical Volkswagon repair", and it fits. A full explanation is offered for every repair (engines or axles that are lying around serve as "teaching tools" and as a woman who is not daft about cars, it is a pleasant surprise to be treated with respect and as if I do, in fact, have a brain!) They keep the "slacker crowd" in Austin mobile in their vans, the professional folk cruising in their newer VW's, and every other VW owner type happy. They are passionate and knowledgable about VWs, honest, reasonably priced and generally great people. A bug owner friend of mine stopped by there yesterday (at my insistence) and called me last night to report that he was going to let them do all of his bug work from now on simply based on the overall attitude of the place and their suggestions for how to solve certain problems. I can't rave enough, though I forewarn they are quite busy just from word of mouth!

I can't overemphasize how wonderful this mechanic is. They're everything you would expect from a VW repair shop, and every single experience on both my '73 beetle and my 2000 Jetta was wonderful. They were patient, friendly, compitant, and willing to explain everything they were doing and why. Their skill level was amazing, they seemed excited to be working on my beetle, and treated it with the respect and care it deserved. In one instance, a friend was considering a used VW that had a couple problems. She called to get some idea what the repair would cost and they told her if she'd bring it by they'd take a look at it for her. Simply a very friendly, compitant, and honest VW mechanic. Alas, they won't work on my Lexus.

No pretense. No frills. These guys know VW's. They fixed my
'99 VR6 Jetta for about the same price that I paid to get
the oil changed(Mobil 1)at an oil change place. My repair
involved removing the motor mounts and replacing 2
components that were triggering my "Check Engine" light, plus
I had a looming vehicle inspection that was contingent upon
this repair. It was fixed on time, and everyone I spoke to
was friendly and loved VW's/drove/raced VW's and went out of
their way to explain and show me in their shop manual as
much as I could understand. Dependable, very very reasonable
repair for your VW. I know one of the mechanics is
knowledgeable about older BMW's and Mercedes too. I found
them through this website!
Thanks.
