To clarify, I am recommending the W.N. Watson located on 352 Broad Street. I've taken my Toyota Camry there and my Ford F-250 there several times. Oil changes, routine maintenance, tires, funny sound under the hood, they are always helpful. My car was overheating one day and I took it in. After inspection, the shop manager called me and said that the water pump they were supposed to have put in on my last visit had not been installed. They fired the responsible mechanic and repaired my vehicle at no charge. I was pleased that they came clean, which I respect. I've also been trying to get them to do about a $600 job on my truck engine for the last year, but every time the shop manager tells me, "You don't need to do that yet." And he explains to me each time the symptoms I should look for when it's time for that particular work. I like having a consistent mechanic whom I trust. And I feel that way with this mechanic. There's another W.N.Watson in Greenville on E. Washington Street that I do not like and do not recommend. The mechanics treat you like an idiot there and the 2 times I've gone in for work, I've left with another problem i.e. antennae bent/broken, hole in my tire, etc.

Even though I called with a specific part to replace, they performed a diagnostic check at no additional charge. In addition to the initial replacement (water pump), they replaced the timing belt and temperature sensor for little extra. They gave me a great deal, they were honest, they were friendly, and my car is running great. I'm unsure of mechanic certifications or work guarantees, but I'm thrilled with the quality of work and service. I've met and heard stories about mechanics who have tried a few tricks on women (directional fluid, hooter valve, can't let your car leave the shop unless these repairs are made), but the folks at W.N. Watson treated me fairly, respectfully, and took the time to explain the repairs.

I've gone to these guys several times and always leave satisfied. I was having mysterious problems once and they kept the car for THREE DAYS to run diagnostics and DIDN'T CHARGE ME A DIME because they couldn't pinpoint or reproduce the problem. If this doesn't tell you volumes about the place and their honesty, then I don't know what will. In the end, talking with them we found what we thought was the right decision. Not only was it the right choice, but they did a whole mess of other work at the same time and I saved a bunch on labor. Now, they are not anywhere near as cheap as those bargain basement chains, but their costs are well worth it. They are honest and will fix your problem for you.
