I couldn't have gotten through grad school at Penn State without Bob and his team at Penn State Mobil. They are as honest as the day is long...on two occasions I took my car into the shop thinking that something major was wrong...and instead of ripping me off, Bob found the problem, assured me it was minor, and charged me a reasonable price for the repair. They do excellent work...I never once had to take a repair back to them because they didn't do something correctly. When I finished at Penn State and moved away, my only regret was that I would no longer be able to have my car serviced by Penn State Mobil. They're honest, capable, timely...and friendly to boot!

Bob gets to know you and your car. Whether the car is in for inspection or a specific repair Bob is always thinking ahead and preempts many problems before they occur. Honesty, timeliness, reasonable prices, car knowledge and friendliness are all attributes of Bob and his shop. I would recommend him to anyone.

I'd like to recommend this shop - I found them on this site when I was visiting my 82 year old mother and it became obvious that something needed to be repaired on her car. I found them to be straightforward, polite, knowledgeable about what needed to be done and able to clearly explain her various options. They didn't patronize her and actually went out of their way to give her an alternative that would have cost less. I really felt that they were competent and honest, which in my opinion is no small thing to say about an auto repair shop.

No need to look elsewhere. Bob is the best mechanic in State College, hands down.

If you are looking for a competent, honest and reliable place to bring your car in State College, I highly recommend Penns Mobil. I recently brought my car there for some preventative work, like radiator cleaning, new belts and some other items that needed fixing. The work was done perfectly and for less than the estimate they initially gave me. They even told me not to have some work done because there was no need for it at this point in time. When it is needed, they will let me know. Not only are they honest and competent, they are also friendly and will take the time to answer all of your questions completely. I was so satisfied after having my work done that I immediately recommended them to my sister who also lives in State College. She too has been looking for a reliable and honest place to bring her car. It is very rare to find people as conscientious as those who work at Penns Mobil. I recommend them without reservation!!!

After my divorce about 10 years ago, I relocated to State College and needed to find a good mechanic. I did not know anyone in town so drove to a nearby place so that I could walk home while the car was being repaired. The car was repaired in a timely manner and the owner charged a fair price. Since that time, I have remarried and relocated out of the area, but since I work nearby, I still take my car to Bob for repairs. He has always given me the straight truth about what was needed for the repair and what was not. On many occassions Bob has worked overtime or come into work on a day off to help me out with an emergency. Over the years, I have learned to trust this man implicity and have recommended him to many of my co-workers who all seem to enjoy the pleasure of dealing with him. He is a hard worker and has been know to drop everything on a busy day to give me a lift to my workplace as a courtesy. On other days I have swung by with a question and he has given me free advice...never to busy, never put out for the interruption. Also, he has been known to hand me a small part over the counter or do a small job for free. I can't guarantee that he will do this for everyone, but we have built a nice relationship over the years. I can go to Sam's Club and save a few dollars on tires or to Wal- Mart and get a little better price on a battery, but then what happens when I need a repair and he can't stay in business? So at times I will pay a little extra than the megastores to build the relationship. Too bad there aren't more mechanics out there like this guy. He does the occupation a real credit and you would likely be pleased too with his service! He earns my 3 thumbs up award!

Penns Mobil was recommended to me by my boyfriend, which is probably one of the more useful things that he's ever done for me. Bob has always been honest and competent, and is the kind of mechanic who seems interested in forming a relationship with his customers rather than just squeezing as much money out of them as possible. As for his prices, they have always seemed reasonable, and in fact he has done work more than once at no charge. I recently bought a car from him as well at about 1/3 the blue book value. Don't be fooled by the tiny shop. Bob is hands down the best mechanic in town.

Bob is the most honest mechanic I have ever met. I started going to Bob upon the recommendation of my younger brother when I was a less than rich grad student back in the 1990s. Not only has Bob saved me money, but my cars have been wonderfully cared for and made to last. Bob knows how to diagnose cars and also knows how to FIX cars, not just replace parts. Bob knows how to stage repairs over time to fit one's budget and never shakes down customers, replacing stuff and doing unnecessary jobs. Penns Mobil has a great selection of tires from Vredesteins to Sumitomos and he and his team do great repair work the first time. When I have lived away from State College and if I leave central PA, Bob and his team would be one of the biggest services and values that I would miss. I recommend without reservation Bob's team of Brian and Frye. It's 2008, and I bring my car, my wife's, and my sportscar all to Bobby and his team.
