Used to go to another mechanic on Forbes--(the one in the old gas station). I was not yet a customer of Constantin's. Found them here. Broken clutch cable, other guy told me thousands of dollars. Constantin's talked to me on the phone told me to bring the car to their transmission guy. Only several hundred dollar repair. Constantin's is very very honest, deals with females in a respectful way. Very eager to fix a problem if it arises after their work. I would recommend them to anyone and I do. I work in Oakland and many of my colleagues also use them. Excellent people and work.

I recommend them wholeheartedly, though it is possible that some of their habits are against the "mechanic's code of ethics". First and foremost, they are lazy mechanics. They only spend their time fixing problems that have to be fixed and don't waste their time (and my money) looking for imaginary problems. Second, they only charge for work they do and have no notion of "fixed or usual" rates. Third, rather they are located underneath a privately owned (not by them) parking garage where I parky my car while at work. Rather than the normal technique of requiring customer to come goveling to them with the car carefully parked a minimum number of steps from the shop, they will get it from and return it to the parking garage. Fourth (and I realize this must be a serious violation), if you don't have a check on hand to pay for their work they'll simply tell you to return when you do. Finally, and perhaps their most egregious violation, they will tell you when a car is no longer worth fixing and should be replaced.

I was referred to this shop by a trusted co-worker -- my experiences there have made me refer everyone else I know. On numerous occasions, these guys did high-quality repairs for hundreds of dollars cheaper than other shops because they don't do unnecessary work, they use recycled or refurbished parts when possible, and they charge you what is fair. Many times, I've dropped off my car and had them call me within an hour or two with everything ready to go -- they don't waste any time! I would strongly recommend these folks for all of your car-maintenance needs.

My daughter is in college in Pittsburgh. I live 4 hours away in Buffalo. I found this shop on the Car Talk website, and I couldn't be more pleased. They squeezed her in to check out a potential coolant leak. They pressure tested the system, found no leaks and would not take a dime for the time they spent. (She ended up dropping-off donuts when she picked it up, though.) They were perfect, plus.
