Out in the suburbs between Pittsburgh and Monroeville. Paul's not cheap, but he's very thorough, and very honest. There's a bus stop about 50' from his shop, but busses only run during morning and evening rush-hours.

Paul's is not a cut-rate garage. Paul charges fair prices for the amount of work he puts in. He is thorough, and backs up everything he does. He _is_ "your neighorhood mechanic", like in the old days when you could trust the guys at the corner garage to do the right thing. He bends over backwards to make sure that what he is recommending is really needed, and calls it as he sees it. If a car is Not Worth Fixing, he'll tell you point blank. He pretty much treats everyone's car like he'd want his treated, and treats his customers like he'd want to be treated. And I think he succeeds at it.

I've taken all of our cars to Paul's for several years. They've done everything from oil changes, inspections and check engine lights diagnostics all the way to body work. Worth noting: they are one of the few area shops that still work on Air-Cooled VWs. Bob (the owner) makes sure you know up front what needs done and why. I've known him to dissuade a customer from doing expensive work on a car that just isn't worth it, and will likewise tell you when he thinks it's well worth the time and expense. I admittedly don't know a lot about fixing cars, so I've always been at the mercy of mechanics, so it's paramount to me that I feel I can trust my mechanic, and I can say without hesitation that I trust everyone at Paul's. Cars he's worked on for me or my wife: 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle (1.8T) 2004 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport
