The automatic transmission wasn't downshifting and this was causing the engine to stall. I went into his shop on a whim, because I broke down a block away. Ernie walked me up the street to my car, looked at it, disconnected something and said now try it. Needless to say, I haven't had a problem with it since. He would not even take a dime for it. He said that it was a bad switch and that if I wanted to replace it I could, but that I could drive it this way for a while. There should be more mechanics like him in the world. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to deal with an honest mechanic.

While I was impressed with the professionalism and apparant knowledge that these guys exhibited, I was very disappointed with the speed of service. I had the choice of towing my car to Best Transmission or another garage; the other garage told me on Friday that they couldn't work on it until Monday, "The Best" told me to bring it in because they could get to it sooner. The weekend passed with my car still sitting on the street. On Tuesday (the day after my car would have been worked on at the other place), my car was finally pulled into the shop, and nothing was done until Wednesday. Once they finally did something, they were very honest and told me exactly what was wrong (and, actually, that it wasn't worth fixing), but I was very unhappy that they had the car almost a week before I had an answer.

Ernie rebuilt my car after my insurance company declared it a total loss (mostly because of body damage). He charged me less than half what the Honda dealer wanted. The result was that I made several thousand dollars on the deal, and I'm still driving the car five years later. I've taken all my cars to Ernie for twenty years and been completely satisfied. I live in dread of his retirement.

Ernie has been dealing with my family and our vehicles for over 10 years. Over the past 5 years or so, his work has gotten sloppy in terms of mechanical. Cars we get inspected, or taken in for small repairs often come home working for a day and needing to go back to his shop for additional repairs of a different nature the next day, what a coincidence!!! He never writes any receipts for his jobs and often mixes up what he has worked on, leading to confusing due amounts and/or unknown in terms of what has been repaired. A fading mechanic who should just retire.
