This is a well-established, family-owned business. My first encounter with them was last year when my recently acquired, buused 91 Ford Explorer developed a humming noise coming from under the car, in the area of the rear seat. The noise would continue after the car was turned off. The "mechanics" at a local Ford dealer had the car all day, charged me $80-plus and told me that the noise was "normal"--they said it was from a fan that was supposed to run a little after the engine was shut off, "to cool things down." When I got the car home, I shut it off. The humming noise was still there, and didn't shut itself off at all. It continued all night. The next morning I took it to the guys at Kress. One of them listened to it for approximately 3 seconds, and diagnosed it correctly as a bad relay switch to the fuel pump. He fixed it in about 10 minutes, charged me a few dollars, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Needless to say I haven't yet been back to the Ford dealer, for anything, and never will go there again. These guys seem to be able to fix anything and everything. I don't think they are set up to do body work, but they do just about everything else, and they do it very very well.

I'm in love! I had a problem with a magnet on a sensor buried deep in my engine, the sort of thing that requires half the engine to come out to replace a $15 part. I brought it in on a Thursday (I had an appointment). They had it done by the end of business Friday. They were accomodating when I left it there until Monday because I didn't get their message. I forgot to tell them I wanted an oil change while it was there, but they did that for me. Normally I object when a shop decides what my car needs and just does it without asking, but normally it's something like change the spark plugs when I've just changed them so they're trying to rip me off. They also made a couple other small repairs that showed they went out of their way to give me good service. One caveat: I knew what the problem was when it went in. They called to tell me what the problem was and explained it very well to me, and I gave approval for the repairs without ever asking for an estimate. They never offered one, either. So when I went to pick it up, I didn't know exactly how much it was going to cost. But again, I knew what was wrong, so I knew it'd be expensive labor-wise.

Mike is the owner and one of the most honest individuals that I know. I have been going there for almost 15 years and have never had a bad experience. The work is finished on time and the problem is resolved. I have never had to return the car for corrections. The price is more than reasonable. We need more garages like Kress Tire and then maybe people would be able to trust their auto mechanic. Fred Brodbeck
