When my 2002 Acura RSX wouldn't start at all one day, I had it towed to
another local garage to find out what the problem was. They told me there
was no compression in the engine and that it did not look good. I asked them
to dig a bit deeper, and after spending $190, they told me my car had jumped
timing and had bent valves. Based on this diagnosis, I listed the car for sale
on Craigslist "as-is" for a fraction of its value if it had been running. I met
Derek of Allwheel Auto when he replied to the ad with interest in the car. I
agreed to sell Derek the dead car. As I was getting the car ready to go
through with the sale the next day, I decided to give it one last shot, and it
started up! Clearly this made me question the information I had been given
by the other shop and caused me to question whether I should be selling the
car.
I called Derek and explained the situation. He could have been very angry at
me for backing out of our verbal agreement. However, he was really cool
about it and understood my situation. Even further, Derek agreed to work
with me to get the car repaired and back on the road again. Still, at this point,
it was not entirely clear what the problem was with the car. A few days later,
Derek called me to tell me that it looked like essentially the only problem was
that it had run very low on oil and probably shut itself off from starting. He
recommended a few minor repairs to keep it running well.
Derek's honesty and professionalism saved me potentially thousands of
dollars and kept me in a car I've always loved. I hope to use Allwheel Auto to
service this car for several more years.
