We found Russ through this web site and have been very happy with his work, both on our 95 Saab 900 and our 98 Ford Escort. His prices are much better than those of the dealers that we used before. He has spotted potentially disastrous tire wear that a dealer had overlooked only a week before. He explains repairs well and doesn't shy away from refering you to a dealer or specialist for work that he isn't comfortable with (Saab transmissions, e.g.). While he can't offer loaner cars or shuttle service (although he has given us rides on occasion), his shop is located just across from the Ardmore Junction trolley station. To illustrate Russ' competence, here is an experience we had just last week. Over Thanksgiving, we were in the Midwest when our windshield washers stopped working (a serious problem if you drive on snowy, slushy roads). We called him on the phone and described the problem. Russ immediately pinpointed the most likely cause. We confirmed his diagnosis, bought the replacement part (a $10 valve) from a local Saab dealer, installed it ourselves, and enjoyed a safe trip home.

I chose Russ based on recommendations on the Car Talk website. As another reader commented, he's pleasant, honest, and charges a fair price (in comparison to other local operations), and has never complained about using parts (factory and non-factory) I've provided. I've had car dealers and non-dealer service shops flat refuse to do work unless they get to (over)charge me for parts. Repairs are done in a timely fashion, and while there have been occasions where he has problems getting a part or an unexpected issue arises, he's forthright about it. That's valuable, given that many dealership and independent mechanics who screw something up (or can't fix a problem) will either lie to your face, or rely on a duct-tape and string solution.

Russ was very nice and let me get through the story of why my car needed repairs without once doing the "Let's Wrap It Up" sign. I wish they were open on Saturdays but Russ does take the time to explain things.

Russ and his wife Sherry are great. We're two female college students who know nothing about cars and we always felt like they respected us and helped us as best as they could. Russ would often look at things for free and not charge us if he couldn't fix something. We're sad that we had to move away and now we're trying to find another mechanic as great as Russ!

Russ has worked on my 3 Toyotas and Saab 900 over the last 10+ years. My comments mirror those of his other customers. One additional remark is that in emergencies he has always done what he could to get me back on the road. He always offers lower cost alternatives when safe and available to a high cost repair. Excellent at diagnosis as well as repairs. While he is not cheap he is always fair and reasonable.

I have been taking my car to Armore Service for the last twenty five years. Russ has always been fantastic to deal with when my car has had problems. Frequently I buy older cars (more than a hundred thousand miles) because they are cheap and I can do most of the minor repairs myself. But when I run across a problem that I can't figure out I go to Russ. He always has time to listen and most times will give me suggestions on how to repair my vehicle. And when I can't fix it Russ and his team get it right the first time every time. I have never had a bad experience at the Armore Service Center. I don't know whether this is allowed but their # is 610-642-3030. I would recommend them to anybody!!

I've taken my vehicle to them for service for about 7-8 years now. Russ has "saved me" on more than one occasion. Once my V-6 Camry would not start. I had it towed to Ardmore Service. A potentially major issue with a spark plug getting loose with the engine block was fixed for about $50-$60 as I recall. I was so relieved! Russ eventually replaced the timing belt and water pump in an expert manner @ reasonable cost & time frame. Later, with a Honda Odyssey, he did the same. I was having a loud rattle in the front end of the minivan. He was too busy to explore it, so I went to Sears and had new struts and other front end components replaced. Still, a major rattle. Russ in short order diagnosed the problem being in the front disk brakes -- a $10 rubber-jacketed bolt X 2 screwed up by some prior mechanic probably putting the wrong kind of lubricant in there -- degrading the rubber over time. Wise! Ingenious! Grateful to have Russ in my life! A Gem of a Man!

They are very pleasant and nice to do business with. In addition to my experiences and the good reviews here, they always seem to have pretty steady flow of business. I assume these are mostly repeat customers that are returning because they also had a positive experience. About the only thing I could complain about is that they do not have weekend hours. I would prefer if I could take my car in early on the weekend for a quick oil change. Otherwise, I have only positive things to say about them.

Russ and Shelley are gone and they will be missed. Tom - top mechanic is still there and the new management have maintained excellent service and rapport with customers. We are pleased and loyal.
