My 9 year old Saturn's transmission stopped working on my most
recent trip to Columbus, where I'm a student. I had it towed it to a
Columbus shop affiliated with the towing service, where they ran a
diagnostic and determined that my transmission was
"unrepairable". Their estimate: $2,700. Honestly, I was calling
around trying to sell my car for parts when I saw the listing for
affordable transmission. Their phone estimate for replacing the
transmission with a 12 month warranty was about half the cost of
the other estimate, so I had it towed there. Ultimately they fixed my
transmission for $80.(!) Yup. A savings of $2,620. They said it
turned out to be something fairly simple to fix; I think it speaks to
the honesty of these mechanics that the repair was so reasonable
when they could have easily charged me much more.
