My situation began when went to a Honda car dealer service department to get a my battery replaced that was still under warranty in my 1994 Honda Accord EX with 46,000 miles. I was told the water pump had the beginning of a very small leak and that is should be replaced before the summer along with the timing belt and other parts. Was given a good price of $500. Was also told that only had a few miles left on my rear drum brakes and would cost $179. to replace. I told the service person I would think about it. I then looked on this Car Talk site to find a referral, called two places and gave them the above information, I was given lower prices but since they were in inconvenient parts of town I had to wait to take a day off work to make an appointment. Then a few days ago I happened to get a flyer in the mail with this ASE certified import auto service info., I called and explained my situation and was told by the owner, Dave Spencer, that he would need to inspect my car to see what was wrong. He was located near my job so I was able to get there before he closed at 5pm, he inspected the car with me standing there and told me the water pump was ok and the brakes did not need replacement at this time, in fact he took his flashlight and showed me. He tested the car and said it was in good repair and did not charge me anything. His prices were lower than the dealer and in May will go back to him for the next service that is needed. He was very respectful to me, a middle aged woman, and I feel very honest. The shop's phone is 702-515-7007. Thank you.
