F&F has always informed me of what was wrong with my car and (since they know I'm poor) the most inexpensive ways to fix it. They tell me what all of my options are and how long it will be before something completely goes (or if they problem is dangerous or not). I usually have a figure of how much something will cost from a friend of mine, and they always come in under or at that cost. They also have done little things for me, like changing a battery, on a moments notice and without charging me a cent. They're wonderful!

I think you'd be hard pressed to find better, more reliable, more honest mechanics than Howard and Frank. As a grad student, I immensely appreciate their ability to find an affordable yet effective fix for any problem, and they have even done a few small jobs at no charge. They always give me an explanation of what is wrong with my car and save the "broken" pieces to help me further understand the problem. And to top it all off, they're always nice, have great senses of humor and are never condescending, regardless of how stupid my questions are. I don't mind that I sometimes have to wait a few days to have my car seen to as I'm glad business is booming.

I first went to F&F because of the recommendation in the MechanXFiles. I found the shop very well mannered and ready-to-please. The mechanics (Howard and Frank) have gone out of their way to educate me on what was wrong with my car every time I bring it in, including explanations like, "What is a head gasket," w/o flinching or acting like they thought they were wasting their breath. When my engine was running hot, they took me the day after I called, despite a busy schedule on their part - they were afraid I'd do some irreversible damage if they didn't see me immediately. They diagnosed the problem (total lack of radiator fluid), and charged me just for the gallon of antifreeze ($8). In the past, they've replaced light bulbs, fluids, etc. for just the cost of the materials - and as a poor graduate student, I love them for it. Definitely definitely go there. I recommend them to everyone wholeheartedly.

I am always treated fairly. The price is right. I've saved a lot of money compared to the chains that offer "bargains." They only do what is needed, and when it is needed. I trust them completely.

I found F&F through this site and couldn't be happier with them (Frank and Howard). I have a 1993 Mazda B-2200 pick-up that had a number of problems while I was living in New Jersey. The first time I went to F&F, I had just failed the emissions test, despite having just had major maintenance in Massachusetts. Frank tested my car on his equipment and determined it passed with flying colors. He told me they wouldn't retest the car unless I could show them it had been "fixed", so he wrote up a fake bill for me, refused to take any money, and sent me on my way. Sure enough, I passed. Since then he has changed the oil a lot, replaced the shocks and struts, sent the car out for a new transmission, helped fix several recurring problems I had after getting another shop to rebuild the engine (a mistake!), etc. I highly recommend both Frank and Howard. The only quibble I have is that they are busy, so definitely call ahead for an appointment.

I heard about F&F from my boyfriend. Even though they were busy, they were willing to look at my car just to give me an estimate. They told me exactly how much it would cost to replace my radiator. The cost was a little high for me, so they looked around for a different radiator that was cheaper which saved me about $100.

Have been going to F&F for over 20 years. Take care of both my car and my husband's. Always good and courteous service. Called me in to work area to show me mouse nest that was blocking air intake!

I have been a customer since 2000 on a recommendation by a friend. They have serviced both new and older vehicles since 2000 for myself, wife and daughter. The best part is knowing that you have honest competent professionals working on your cars - whether a routine or a major service. Very reasonable prices compared to new car dealers or Quick oil change artist that try to sell you services you do not need or forget to put oil back in the engine.

In America you have to be lucky to have an honest wife and mechanic. I can't speak about your wife, but I can tell you I have found honest mechanic. Two years back when other mechanic and dealer screwed up my Santa Fe, I was desperately looking for an honest guy. I came to Car Talk and read some good things about this shop. It was major work, where they had to pull out the engine. They did a good job. He was honest and told me that he would not be able to give certain mile warranty because of the way problem had accrued (Car was running after damage on engine), but he told me that before doing any work. My car is running after the repair perfectly all right. Yes damage was done on the engine and it has 116000 mile (Hyundai) so I can't expect it to run like a Lexus. I would strongly suggest that if you are in search of a good reliable mechanic, then give this guy a try.
