when my van would stall at a stop and sometimes would not restart, i dropped off the van. the next morning the van started up and they established it was a fuel problem, but needed it to stall again to find the source of the problem. they drove it on the hghwy. and let it idle in the garage all day. at the end of the day, howard said that i should take the van home and if it stalls again, to call him immediately to come out and get it{he did not charge me for that day}.two weeks later, it finally stalled again and would not restart. i had it towed to his shop. the next morning, howard started the van and soon after, it stalled. he a bad wire going to a relay.he fixed the problem and charged me $36.

I located this place through a Cartalk listing in the first place, and found them to be as good and plain honest as previous reviewers. My car is a '94 with 150,000 miles so it does need some work now and then. They ALWAYS do only what is needed, and they even try to stay on the low side of that (replaced the last foot or so of my exhaust system when it had rusted out, for example, but left the rest alone "because it seemed fine"; look for used parts when available, etc.)

Even though it's only about a mile from my house, I located this shop several years ago using the CarTalk site! I was very unhappy with a large chain of repair shops that rhymes with "Mep-Boys" and Howard's Gulf was a welcome relief. They have worked on my cars over the years, which have included Honda, Plymouth, Pontiac, Mitsubishi and Chevrolet. I rated them highly on all points, except those that I do not have any experience with.
