Don and his crew have taken good care of my father's car (1993 Ford Tempo 6cyl) for years including rides back and forth from home when needed. On my father's advice I started taking my 1993 Hyundai to them last year and they have done very good work. They give me advice and/or answer any questions I bring them. *Recently my Hyundai was hit and totalled (just my luck, I'd recently had front-end work and a brake job done), and last week when I stopped by to see when they could check out a used car I was considering (before buying it), Don fit me in the that afternoon, and after he checked the car out he took the time to explain some problems he found and things to ask the dealer that wouldn't have thought of. In addition to that I was given a printed sheet stating what needed to be done before inspection and other notes including questions to ask the dealer about the car. Don also gave me his opinion as to whether the car was worth the asking price (which was 'yes')... So far so good with the car, and the bottom line is; my father was right, and I'll be having South Main St. Service Center taking care of my new (used) car... Everyone knows how hard it can be to find someone competent [and trustworthy] to take care of their car. Well my search is over...

Don and his crew have been taking care of my vehicles for the last five years, and they've done an outstanding job of keeping my 91 Ford Escort on the road, and they don't laugh at me when I bring in my 1979 Chevy plow truck for service. They've always been thorough, completely honest, and they fix things right the first time. They also do things right. If something needs replacing, they will tell you so. If it can go another 6 months, they'll tell you that too. They keep your complete repair history on record, and make a thorough check of everything going on with your car. I can honestly say that I trust Don and crew completely. There is only one problem....the place is so popular among regular customers, that there's usually a pretty good waiting list...sometimes up to two weeks. But, if it needs immediate attention, they'll squeeze you in. They'll also give you a ride to work if you need it. If you're looking for the absolute cheapest place in town, this place is not for you. They do things right and don't skimp, so if you're looking for bubble-gum and duct tape repairs, you better go someplace else. But if you want your car taken care of right, this is the place for you.

I wrote a review in 2002; I'm the guy that used to have the '91 Escort and still have the 1979 Chevy plow truck. It's four years later, and now Don and company get to work on my '04 Volvo wagon. The more I go there, the luckier I feel to have somebody that I know and trust working on my vehicles. Since I wrote that review, I've sent several friends there, along with my little old grey-haired mother, and they've done right by everyone. I sent a buddy there with his '96 Jeep Cherokee. He was convinced that he needed a $1500 transmission job. Turns out the flywheel bolts were loose and it cost him $130. A dishonest shop could have gone ahead and replaced the transmission to the tune of $1500. That's the ultimate test of honesty...a new customer who was already prepared to replace his transmission and they fixed the real problem for less than $150 bucks.

The folks at South Main St Service are very personable, honest and care about their customers. There shop is well organized, clean and neat. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants long-term quality car care, outstanding customer service, and excellent mechanical ability - all this at a honest and reasonable rate.

Don and his crew have been working on my cars for almost 15 years. They provide great service and don't do work that isn't necessary. They give me advanced warning of what problems may be coming up as well.

they have helped me keep my vans on the road for well over 200,000 miles... and still driving back and forth to Canada

Don and his crew are always professional in the extreme, while being super people also. I can only hope that the aircraft I travel on are maintained by someone like Don. The best I have found in 30 years. A tradition.

They fit my daughter's car in on short notice, the day before Thanksgiving. They worked hard to get the work done that day so she could have it to go back to school that weekend.

I have always been treated fairly by Don and his crew, and I am a woman. I love Monique, the office manager, she is very nice and welcoming. Additionally, they are always orderly, timely and will take my car in at a moments notice. They call me to tell me what repairs will be needed in the future and approximately how much they will cost. My old car, a Mazda 626, was always running perfectly when I left and I never have to go back for additional repairs and it went for 235,000 miles. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable mechanic.

My wife and I have been customers for about 18 years (maybe more). Once or twice I have gone elsewhere and have never had the level of satisfaction as with Don and crew. Early on, before I was a true regular, I needed an emergency heater core bypass one morning. Don grabbed some tools and had it done in minutes. As I reached for my checkbook he said "See me when you want the core replaced" By offering that level of trust (I could have gone elsewhere) I knew that he had a long term outlook for customers, not a "get what you can now" attitude. I'm sure that there are probably places that would be cheaper for repair and maintenance work but I can't imagine finding a better value.
