Rex, the mechanic, 40ish, has a malformed hand that is not the slightest hinderance to him working in this hard profession. The shop itself has been in operation since before the first coming, and the poor lighting and age of the building don't instill great confidence, but believe me, one's car comes away fixed at a darn reasonable price, and it stays fixed! I have had minor repairs done when Rex was busy on a car, and he would come out in sub freezing and windy weather and make the minor repair on my old '77 Dodge 200 Tradesman van. When I asked him how much? He said, "Naw, that's OK, we'll get you on the next one maybe."

Gates is a Godsend. They remind you of an honest small town garge, except they are in the city. They are the kind of garage you'd like to reward them with a nice bottle of wine because they work hard for the money they get. Just like a comment I already read on this Website; I wish I would have went to them years ago.

My spouse and I found Gates Automotive on the Car Talk mechanics files four or five years ago. They have done all of the repairs on our Subaru Baja and most of the repairs on our Chrysler since that time. They declined to replace the Chrysler?s transmission since that kind of job is out of their expertise. The shop is very busy at times, and it is best to make an appointment. They are very honest and treat both of us very kindly. I am always content with their bills and with the work they do.

Unbelievable service! The van started making a nasty sound from the left rear tire. Fortunately a neighbor had just told me about getting his van worked on at Gates and his experience ('yea, maybe I'll charge you next time'). I called this morning early and the response was 'well, I'll have a look and see if it's something we can fix, but I'm the only one here today.' He found the problem (something with the brake was slightly bent). He fixed it, charged us less than thirty-five, and we had the van back in three hours. Crazy good.
