I was traveling from Chapel Hill to southeast Ky to attend aunt's funeral. Car stopped on Highway and tow truck to me and car to Larry's ~ 3:00 Friday pm. Diagnosed problem as broken cam/timing belt. Est. 2 hour job and owner (Larry) was going out of town. Clark the machanic elected to stay. and repair car. It kept him after hours, and he allowed me to watch (not participate) and showed the need for new water pump (original with 160K miles and nasty gaskets) although he would not exchange if I chose not (but hell, it was all open any way.) At 5:50 pm driving out of shop at the cost of $395.00. Able to meet family obligations. They did not have to do this. They could have really soaked me. They are the only Volvo repair I know if in Asheville. They are: Larry's Performance Werks 815 Merrimon Avenue Asheville NC 28804 704-254-1580

We've got two 740 Volvos, neither with less than 150k miles on the odometer. First had an idle adjustment done, for approx. $60 - this included undoing the bad adjustment I attempted myself. Next, a maddening starting problem. Of course, once towed into Larry's, the car started wonderfully every time. He was honest, said he could start replacing relays one by one, in order of suspicion, but it could add up quickly. A slow learner, I've attempted to work on the problem myself, replacing a relay and a switch. Free of charge, Larry and Clark have given lots of good advice on what I should be looking for and doing. Car stalled once more on me today - Larry may have to once again undo the damage I've done and fix the original problem. I know he'll do a good job for a very reasonable price.

I recently moved to Asheville from San Diego California...I have and love my 1980 911sc targa, so I began my research as to who I would let touch my car once I arrived. (I do not let just anyone service my car) I found Larry and company on the web and went in to introduce myself...I could not be more pleased. I had a very good guy out west and was very concerned about finding someone with integrity that would not just overcharge for every little thing. I found him. Larry has been great. He is busy so appointments are necassary. sometimes a week out. Unless it is an emergency. A scenario that could lead him to overcharge for sure. That is not his MO. When I replace my Family vehicle, I will chose something he is willing to work on. He is officailly the family car doctor. He is a Porcshe head for sure, but he does work on some other types of euro vehicles as well. If you are lucky enough to own a car like mine and live in this part of the world, go introduce your self. My experience so far has been great. Thank you Larry...

After years of up and down service by the local Volvo dealer/shop, I sought out Larry's and have been glad I found him. The work is done quickly and well, prices are reasonable (for Volvos, anyway) and questions are answered straightly and clearly. A year ago I asked Larry for another 20 K on my 1994 Volvo with 195,000 miles on the odometer. This month I asked for yet another 20 K @215,000. I expect it'll keep going under Larry's care.

Larry, the owner, is one of a kind. He is so smart and so competent and so skilled--and he explains his diagnosis and suggested "fix" completely and understandably. He knows how to use his computer to identify apparently mystifying problems, and makes the right call every time. It takes more than skill to win me over, though. I have absolute confidence in larry's integrity. Period. His shop is small--it's just him, his #2 guy Clark, who's been with him for more than a decade, and Jeanette, Larry's wife, who is the office manager and friendly voice on the phone. It's the kind of place where they really *do* know your name, remember your car's problems, and give good, honest advice. In a world that's increasingly characterized by impersonal corporate-speak, impersonality, and rudeness. Larry's shop is a jewel of an exception. Even though it means driving 45 miles to his shop, I wouldn't dream of taking my car anywhere else. Larry's Performance Werks rocks!
