Mike, the manager, is great. I found myself a shop that I could only dream of. He's a second-generation shop owner who likes to be regarded as a doctor-of-machines. His mechanics are good-natured and full of humor. He looks at my car in a timely manner without charging for most diagnostic work. He replaced an exhaust pipe for $65, parts&labor; I do not doubt that it would have cost me at least $150 at a dealer. He even has a shop mascot--an old cat. Best yet, he's a neighborhood mechanic who's fun to talk to.

Mike inherited the shop from his dad, Roy. Mike has so much business from word of mouth that he doesn't even have his number or shop listed in the phone book! He's got two great cats, one is blind and hangs out by the food. the only 'screw-up' I've ever had there was one of his mechanics recommended a place for THE best eggs Benedict...not so. Mike has gotten my car in at the last minutes and out faster than I should ever be able to expect, with great work. Always listens to my concerns and walks me through the problem. Does it help that I live one block from the shop?

This place is great. I had a last minute problem with my car. They got it in the shop in an hour and had called with what was wrong and the cost of repair. They kept me updated through out the day because the repair was taking longer than they expected-they couldn't find a part in the Twin Cities after a dealer told them they had it. They worked until 9pm to get the car done.

I have had to bring in my van once and my husband had to bring his car also. As newbies to the area and looking for mechanics (my dad has been my mechanic all my life until we moved across the state!). Mike has been great with fixing our cars. He doesn't talk down to me and he is honest about simple fixes and didn't charge to diagnose and clear codes. I would highly recommend him!

My car wasn't started for over 4 years. Because of the length of time the car wasn't attended to, I totally expected to be taken advantage of in both labor and parts because I had been told to expect to pay much much more than I did. They saved me many hundreds of dollars and were gracious and honest about it. In fact, when the job was done, he personally drove my car home to pick me up and then drove us back to the shop.(I live less than a mile away, but it was more than I ever expected.) Thanks guys, I'm coming back.

There have been many occasions when I have pulled into the lot without an appointment and received immediate attention. When a light like my brake (or engine) light kept going on and off, I pulled in and asked Mike if I was going to do damage or get killed, he plugs in his code reader and tells me what the problem is. He's added brake fluid for me (no charge), he's replaced O2 sensors (and then problem solved the ongoing question of why they kept not working), and many other problems without making me feel like an idiot. He also takes the time to show me what actual damage looks like - I had my oil change at an instant change place, and they told me that my belts were dangerously damaged. I drove straight over to Roy's, and Mike looked at it (again without an appointment) and said that it was fine. THEN he digs through a filthy pile of trash (parts?) and pulls out a bad belt and actually teaches me what to look for as my belt ages. His staff (well all but one of them) are really nice guys, they remember my name, and ask after my family. The other one is a half-decent mechanic and a bit of a condescending jerk who doesn't like to be told such, but I just don't let him work on my car anymore.

They often give us free advice, and they will tell you that you don't need to have a repair done because it wouldn't be worth it.

Once again they proved themselves. Took our 13 year old car in for muffler strap replacement. Asked them to also change the oil and check all of the car's bodily fluids, belts, etc. The labor cost was so low I thought they left off a zero. And when they didn't find anything wrong, they said there's nothing wrong! Amazing.

I have used Roy's service several times for routine maintenance to major repairs for the last 2 years. In most cases, the work is completed in a single day. If more time is needed, they explain the difficulty. All of the employees are informative, professional, & kind to women who know nothing about cars. They repair only what needs to be fixed & at a reasonable price. They will drive you home & pick you up. But the shop keeps its costs low & I don't like wasting their time unless it is necessary. It is a great place with which to do business.
