For a general repair, tuneup or minor work, you have to book an appointment up to ten days in advance. If it's an emergency, bring the car and they will squeeze it in. They always look for the least expensive and most effective fix, and once they start they usually get it done in a day.

Took my (Four year old) 1967 Chevelle to Ryder, with a leaking water pump and a loud clanking sound when even slight bumps were encountered in the road. I thought the noise might be a loose battery or radiator or worn front shock absorbers. Got the car back the evening of the day I took it in with a new rebuilt water pump installed. I asked about the clanking noise and was told that the noise was caused by the worn water pump. No more noise and I paid only for the water pump. This is the kind of place your wife can take her car and say, "I`m going on a trip. Please make sure the car is ready". They`ll fix what needs to be fixed and she`ll have a safe trip. We`ve done this several times when I was out of town and my wife had to make a road trip. Their address: Ryder's Auto Service Centre 1201 West Centre Road Portage, MI 49002 616/327-4467

I have taken cars to him for about 25 years and he has always treated me well. On one occasion when our radiator was overheating he came out to the house and checked it out and fixed it. He has also trusted us to pick up a car after his normal hours and we stopped in the next day or so to pay him.
