I once had an 1976 Olds 88 that was running like %$&@. I took it to mark and instructed him to do a tune up and oil change. I went on to work (Mark had one of his helpers give me a ride). After work I showed up at Marks and was told that my car was ready. I looked at the repair bill and it said that I owed nothing. I went in to the work area to talk with mark about what was going on. Mark told me that I didn't need a tune up but that a few vaccum hoses were old and cracked. So he replaced them. I asked about the oil change and Mark said that since I was a good customer he waved the charge for the oil change and the new hoses. Mark has been my mechanic for about 15 years now, he allways does a good honest job. Sometimes he even surprises me. The story above happened while Mark was working in another persons shop, since he opened his own place I have had no more free work. All of his work is excelent and he is great with people like me who don't always understand whats wrong with their car.

Mark's Auto Service is actually in Dexter, not Ann Arbor, but it's well worth the inconvenience. (It's actually only about ten minutes from my house on the West Side.) They advertise that they'll drive you into town, but I've never used it. However, Mark once loaned me his truck while waiting for a part. Mark has been my mechanic for over ten years. At least twice friends have gone for estimates elsewhere and been gouged. I referred them to Mark and the problem turns out to be about $400 less expensive. I've probably referred about 10 people to him, and all of them are happy with him. I find great satisfaction in someone I can trust, and Mark is certainly that.

I took my van to one of those franchise shops for a quick oil change. They told me I needed all this new crap or my car would be an instant deathtrap. OK maybe that's a slight exageration but it was about $350 in repairs; hoses, belts, plugs, etc. I took it in to see Pete, one of Mark's mechanics, because if it was in bad shape I wanted to be sure it was done right and he actually got kind of mad. He said, "I get so angry when those little wannabe shops tell people they need a bunch of unnecessary stuff just so they can charge a lot more. Your belts and hoses are fine. You might want to recheck the (he named a part) in about 6 months, but for now everything is in great shape." Moe than once I have taken it in thinking there was something big going wrong and it turned out to be so simple, they fixed it little or no charge. They are honest, really know and love cars, and respect the community they serve.

My wife and I have taken our cars to Mark's for at least 15 years. They have never steered us wrong; never exploited any situation to milk more money out of repair job; been honest in evaluating the cost and time required to make repairs (or dump a car when the repair cost outweighs the value of the auto); they are completely competent and honest -- exactly what you'd hope for in mechanics serving the community in which they do business. We trust their judgment so much, in fact, that before we bought a three-year-old truck from a dealer this spring, we had one of Mark's mechanics check it out for any signs of excess wear or defects. We got the pros and cons of this model from Pete, and that was icing on the cake. These guys are the real deal.

Always a pleasant experience to take a vehicle in there. Everyone is honest and you see them in the community eating lunch or shopping. Scott at the front desk is invaluable and willing to listen and explain everything in language you can understand. I refer friends and family to this shop as well.

I grew up in the community and have been taking vehicles to Marks for 15+ years. Pete is great, and all the guys there seem to know their stuff. they will always call you with the estimate and explain what must be done, what should be done, and what to keep an eye on. Prices these days are comparable to other shops in the area, except tire repair/mounting is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper at Marks than from those chain tire places, and the service is always superior. One time my truck was in to get some tires mounted and they were just unable to get to it that day. they called me and explained the situation so I picked up my truck that evening. The next day they called me and then drove out to my work and got the truck, did the work and delivered it back to me at work...great service if you ask me!!
