I live out of town and make the trip into Seattle/Ballard to have Roger and the men of Arne Auto take care of my car-- -they do it right, they do it fair. And if they don't, they fix it! Might cost me more than a local dealer, but I know the car is always going to get me where I'm going with no nasty surprises!

Arne's and Rodger Zink have worked on several cars of mine for over 7 years, since I moved into the area. They have done everything from a complete engine replacement, breaks, major service and oil changes. I started them working on my 70's Ford F250, then got them working on my Ford Escort and recently began taking my Volvo V70 to them. I have always found them to be honest, friendly, and straight forward. It is interesting to read other reviewers comments that imply that they are expensive. I have not found this to be the case, particularly when you consider value along with price. On more than one occasion I have brought in a car with what I thought was a major issue, only to have them charge me for a $20 part and a half hour of time and send me on my way. And while I have dropped some serious bucks at Arne's, I always felt that I got a good value and quality service.

A nearby major repair company told me my car needed a new transmission and other work that would cost well over 4k. I doubted this, found Arne's on this site, had them check the car out and repaired for about $600. That was some time ago and the car is running fine.

My Mechanic, Rodger Zink, is great. From the first day I drove my old Subaru into Seattle from Utah he was there for me, and I've directed people to his shop-Arne's Auto Service-in Ballard, in Seattle, for several years now. He's attentive: he'll go over with me (in detail) what's happening, what needs to happen, and what might happen soon. Plus, he's gone way out of his way to help me sell my car, look for another one, and deal with ownership and insurance people & issues. With a special strength in Japanese cars, Rodger is a gem in the heart of Ballard - honest, hard-working, sincere, and trustworthy. And good. All I'm lookin' for in a mechanic!

Had all brakes redone on my '87 Mazda, because there was an awful grinding noise. A year later, I have to take my car in again. It's not the same noise, so it could be something totally different. But I'm suspicious. I decided to go with this shop off a recommendation, even though other places had better offers on brake jobs. Was it worth the money? Hard to say. He did call me when he found more work than he was expecting, just to make sure I was okay with it, and he explained what was wrong very clearly, to someone who knows nothing about car repair.

Last autumn I had my oil changed at Firestone, and asked them to take a look at my noisy brakes. They said that I would need to have the brake pads replaced *before the winter*, and gave me an outrageous estimate. As a poor starving student and a terrible procrastinator, I naturally put it off until this summer (the noise went away, so I forgot about it). I called Arne's this week, and they scheduled me for an oil change and brake job 2 days later, and were very flexible about my dropping off the car before or after hours. Today, a couple of hourse after dropping the car off, I spoke with the mechanic. They were done changing the oil (slightly pricey, at $30), and he informed me that my brake pads were in fine shape, and that I didn't need to have them looked at for at least 6 months. I was thrilled to finally find someone who had no interest in ripping me off, even though I'm an ignorant girly-girl who could probably have been persuaded to replace parts that don't even exist, if they were as dishonest as those jerks at Firestone.

I have been very happy with Arne's. I've taken one Honda and two Subarus there over the years. I always recommend them to others. I always say, they may not be the cheapest, but I think they are the best.
