Gary and all his staff are wonderful people. Most of them
have worked for Gary for 10 plus years, probably more. I
have taken many cars to Gary over the last 15 plus years
and he always, without fail, is honest and reasonable. My
daughter took her Civic to him because she thought
something horrible was wrong with it. It turned out to be
a fuse that cost $.75. Gary put it in for her and told her
to be on her way. The shop is unlike any other in Olympia.
You will be very happy with the work and the price.

This shop started as the service department of the downtown Datsun Dealer. When the dealership moved to the "Auto Maul" Mr. Rutt and his mechanics stayed downtown in their old low-rent building. I kept taking out 82 Stanza to him for regular servicing and eventual repairs. Most of the time the same mechanic worked on the car. Once he screwed up a fuel filter installation: bent the fuel line, and the car starved up a long hill. From my phone description, they knew what the problem was and fixed it right away when I took the car back. More than once, as the Datsun aged, I needed "emergency" repairs. They always took it right away and fixed it quickly. I have recommended them to other Datsun owners, and everyone has said they are very pleased with the service. Gary's has branched out into other Japanese cars, and I took my daughter's new Honda civic to them for a regular servicing. They did everything fine, and somewhat cheaper than the dealer would have. I would recommend this shop to anyone with a Japanese car. If a problem was beyond their capability, I feel they would send me to a specialty shop that could perhaps do a better job. They kept our Stanza alive for 254,000 miles. It finally got to be so ugly that I gave it to the Salvation Army. It was still running fine, thanks largely to the good work of Gary's Olympia Auto Service.

This shop is a great find. They have made suggestions to me about "cheap fixes" like using additives, where a dealer would have been happy to replace a part. I have always been satisfied that I have benefitted from their experience and efficiency at a fair price. I have recommended Gary's to several friends, who have told me that they were happy to know about a dependable, honest and experienced mechanic.

Gary himself drove me to Lacey to my work. Has some great classic 50's autos in front windows!

When I started taking my first car to Gary's, I didn't know much about cars at all. Gary and George (an employee) often would take the time to explain to me, over the phone or in person, how to do the small repairs on my own. They said they wouldn't feel right taking my money for things I could do in an hour on my own, without first warning me about how simple the job was. When I brought in my second car, an '81 Honda Civic with a mysterious stalling problem (I'd taken it to 3 mechanics, no one could isolate the problem), Gary pulled one of his best guys off the floor and had him work on my car exclussively for two days trying to determine the problem. Then he only charged me for the three hours of labor it actually took to replace a part. The emplyees are all very friendly, extremely honest with great prices. I recommend them to anyone with a car, running or not.

My daughter lives in Olympia and I scheduled her 2001
Mazda Protege for a 60K servicing at Gary's (based on the
recommendations here) while I was visiting her. Very
friendly, from the reception desk to the mechanics. We
were able to drop off her car the night before-- they have
a slot for keys. No envelopes available though, so if you
do this, bring an envelope and enclose your key with your
information. Gary's price was less than HALF of what the
Mazda dealer charged. Yes, less than HALF! It was even
$100 less than the suggested price for that city on
another respected auto site. The car was done by 4:30 as
promised.
When I told them I found the shop on this site, he said
some other customers have told him that also-- he doesn't
have time to use the computer, he's too busy fixing cars.

Have always had good luck with this shop. They seem honest
and are more interested in making thier customers happy
than making more money off them.
Most recently I had some brake work done. Rather than try
to get me to buy all new brake pads for both front and rear
brakes and grind the discs, they said that I could get by
with just new front pads for a while longer, and waiting on
the discs would be good too, since they can only grind them
down so many times.
This saved me about $400.00.

I have been taking my cars to Gary for 20 years and have
always been completely satisfied with his service,
integrity and customer service. He has great mechanics and
office staff who have stayed with him for years which says
alot about him as an employer. One time when he couldn't
finish my car by the end of the day he gave me a ride all
the way home (15 miles). I wouldn't take my car anywhere
else.
