This is a fairly large shop that have good mechanics and do dependable work. No frightening experiences or suprises here.

Babcocks has a pretty cheap labor rate ($40/hr in 2004) and
they don't replace parts if they can be fixed or re-used.
I've found lately that they are not the best at taking time
to understand the problem or at calling when the work is
finished. However, they generally do good work, fix the
problem the first time, on time, and relatively cheaply.
It's a big shop convenient to Lynchburg City, Downtown, and
Madison Heights.

The Jeep stealership in Raleigh tried to sell me $1200
worht of repairs...Bobby's shop looked at it and fixed
everything necessary for $120.....they have always been
fair and reasonable on the repair cost and I have never
been shocked!

Bobby has always taken care of us. Great prices and even
better work. They work on my cars quite a bit (I have a
bunch of really bad cars), and always manage to keep them
running. THANKS!

I moved here from Connecticut; prices are pleasing is an
understatement. I have older cars, so they often require
repairs.
In my opinion they try hard not to make you spend money if
they can avoid it. I have been satisfied with the work,
which has ranged from the infamous 3.8 liter head gasket
replacements to simple state inspections.
They always try repairing in one day if they can, but will
let you know if they can't. They are a busy shop.
There are probably some other good shops in town, but I can
walk from the office to them and back.
I cannot comment on how they treat women, except to say I
think they have integrity, and would be surprised if they
treated female customers differently.

Babcock's has been great and I have used them for years,
ever since I got tired of getting overcharged by the honda
dealership. When they use cheaper, rebuilt parts I am
always aware of it beforehand and willing to take that
risk rather than pay higher rates for new honda parts.
They have always been scrupulously honest and never charge
excessively; often they have "thrown in" smaller repairs
when they are doing bigger ones, and I have friends who
have saved hundreds of dollars by using Babcock's in
comparison to what dealers quoted them for repairs. The
"down sides" are that their hours are limited to 8-5 Mon
thru Fri and they do not offer shuttle services or
loaners, you have to work those things out for yourself!

I was a visitor in Lynchburg dealing with a family crisis.
My car was way overdue for routine maintenance and there
was time pressure to get on the road for my long trip home
to Maine. A garage could have told me I needed $$$$ worth
of repairs before the trip and I would have been unable to
argue. Babcock's not only fit my car into their full
schedule but sent me off with a safe car and a low bill.
They knew they would not have repeat business from me, but
I told them that I would add my testimonial to this site,
which is where I had found them
