Pete vanderVate has been maintaining my Alfa for the last 6 years. Ever since the local dealers stopped supporting the car. Their service and responsivemness has always been ecxceptional, they know my car better than I do. They don't do any work without first checking with you. I'd recommend them without reservation for any car to any one I know.

I first found out about this shop 12 years ago when my brothers Saab unexpectedly needed service when he was visiting the area. He thought it would be a major repair and was pleasently surprised when the mechanic found that is was something simple and cheap to fix. I later bought a Saab 9000. The dealership did the maintenance when the car was under warranty. The dealership's maintenance operation was always busy, the service was expensive, their treatment of customers impersonal, and they were always recommending additional service. I was wary. My Saab 9000 is now maitained by Precision Imports. Great service, quality repair work, fair prices. If they find something that needs to be addressed they tell me up front, give me an accurate cost estimate, and offer sensible advice on whether it can be deferred and for how long. They've won my trust over the past 8 years.

I have taken my Alfa here for over ten years and other than the long drive from Alexandria, I have been very happy with the TLC they provided the Alfa. I recommend them without reservation for any foreign car.

I have taken 3 different cars to Pete. I have felt I was treated well by Pete. No condescension because I am a woman or concern that I was being cheated One time he diagnosed a problem and told me to take it to the dealership because it was an extended warrenty problem. I am so glad I found this shop.

Pete has worked on several cars for me and my friends over the years. They take pride in fixing things "right", and they always call you with an estimate before doing any repairs. The shop is clean and very well equipped. They almost always fix the problem on the first try, and they stand behind their work. They have worked on my Audi, my son's VW Jetta, and various friend's Hondas and Toyotas, and they have done a great job on all of them. I understand that they now work on domestic cars, too. I would recommend Precision Import to anyone who wants a quality repair at a fair price.

I was recently vacationing in the DC area during one of the hottest weeks when our AC decided to flake out about 4 hours into the trip. I found these guys via the web and brought my car in. They fully tested the AC system and after 2 days of running the car and driving it, they couldn't replicate the problem. They thought I might have a bad AC compressor clutch but couldn't be 100% sure. They gave me the option of installing a new AC compressor but advised against it. I took their advice. At the end of this, they only charged me for the gas they had to put into my car to run it while testing. I'm sure I would not have gotten the same treatment with another mechanic or dealer. I only wish these guys were in RI. I'd become a lifelong customer.

I've used Precision Import Service for over 10 years and three different vehicles. I wasn't sure what to expect when the shop changed owners serveral years ago, but was willing to give the new owners the benefit of the doubt. They have worked extremely hard to uphold the shop's reputation. Recently I had to have a car towed there when it wouldn't start. The problem was the failure of a starter they installed ten months ago. Although the bad starter wasn't their fault, they replaced it at no charge, including absorbing the fee for the towing.

First, they have moved. In 2018 they lost the lease on Dorr Avenue and they are now in Chantilly, VA. It's not nearly as convenient as they lost access to the nearby Metro station, but it's the closest place they could find. Just google it and their website has a map. The shop is at the back of a huge industrial estate. Same phone number, though. I've been using this shop since 1983 when I brought Pete my 1981 Saab with a cold start problem that the Saab dealer had seen FIVE times and could not fix. They fixed it in one morning. The dealer had diagnosed the problem correctly, replaced the part, but the part was faulty and they never went back and checked it. Pete, the owner, charged me one hour labor and told me to go back to the Saab dealer and have them replace the original part for free. I've been going to them ever since through the Saab, an Audi, an Isuzu Trooper, a Mercedes diesel (I inherited), and my Subaru since 2003. Steve is the new manager/part owner who worked for Pete Van der Vate for many years. When Pete had to retire due to ill health (he died a few years ago), Steve and another mechanic bought the shop and have kept up Pete's outstanding service. I take my Outback and my wife's Camry to Precision twice a year and tell them to change the oil and filter and do whatever they think is best. My wife's Camry has NEVER broken down. The Outback had to be towed in twice, both times due to serpentine belt problems (broken idler pulley and broken tension adjuster). Otherwise, the Subaru runs great. Just trust them. They know what they're doing and will be totally upfront and honest.
