Randy is so personable, he knows everybody in town and could run for mayor!

I was recommend here by a machinist friend and have nothing but rave reviews. I generally have trouble with being treated as an idiot because I am not only female but sort of naive and innocent looking. This time I was wrong about what was wrong with my car but the mechanic took the time to explain what was really going on without being at all condescending. He did a sound check of what I thought was the problem even though he was pretty sure I was wrong. In the end it turned out to be something minor and I was pleansantly surprised when he charged me less than the cab ride to the shop cost.

Extremely honest. Incredibly competent. First time I visited them Randy told me that he did not think that it was worth me having the work done ( trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear). Said he would be glad to do the work, but recommended against it. Second time I went to him, he immediately and correctly ( big emphasis on correctly) diagnosed a problem which two other shops failed to fix correctly. He actually listens fully to your problem. Id send my mother to him ( and I like my mother....most the time).

My only complaint with Randy is that sometimes he doesn't have time to do minor work. If your car has some minor quality of life problem, he will tell you that it's not worth fixing, which I suspect means it's not worth his time to fix. It's not that he's lazy, his talents and honesty are so widely known that he really doesn't have time for small problems. But if he's got the time, he's always willing to do a favor. He fixed my lawnmower last year and charged me a case of beer.

Did not push for a repair when I said I needed to think
about whether I was going to bother keeping the
(old/practically worthless) car.

I have had great experiences with Pugh's Auto Service.
Randy recently saved me a load of cash on my 90000 mile
inspection for my Toyota, he charged 92 dollars for a tune
up and inspection and I had called other shops in town for
for the same work, and was quoted between 400 and 500
dollars! Also, I was almost sure I needed new brake pads,
but Randy again saved me a load of money and demonstrated
that it was unnecessary for a long time. I will definately
keep sending my babies to Pugh's Auto Service, they are
very honorable and very competent.

Randy undervalues his own services, given the low hourly
labor charge. But the low rate does not reflect the
quality. On the contrary, his shop only does what needs to
be done and does it right 99% of the time, and in the
other 1%, he fixes it immediately, in our case, for no
extra charge. He is very patient with old cars, and the
only time he had trouble getting to our car was when his
extra mechanic just stopped coming to work! Highly
recommended!!

This has been an excellent repair shop for us, keeping all 5
of our somewhat-older cars going. Honest,
relatively-inexpensive, and competent. Don't be put off by
the scruffy "Gasoline Alley" premises. Rumor has it,
though, that Randy Pugh may be putting his place up for
sale. A huge loss for loyal customers, if true.

I have known Randy since we were teenagers. He works on
my 1974 Porsche, 1990 Corvette, 1999 Durango, and my Mom's
1993 Taurus. He is a compete mechanic and I usually feel
that he hasn't charged me enough. Sometimes he won't have
the necessary computer to read the codes of some models
but if he doesn't he will tell you and give you a good
recommendation and where you can take it. There is a
reason he won the C'ville's award for best honest mechanic
several years in a row.

I am a former mechanic under Randy Pugh, and I took over
the shop in August. We still believe in honest,
affordable and reliable work on your cars. We continue to
serve Pugh's Auto Repair customers and are always
accepting new clients. Now open Saturdays from 10 to 2.
Please come visit the renovated shop & office (in the same
location)!
Thanks,
Joe
