Blacksburg Virginia, home of Virginia Tech, has number of Auto repair establishments...many of whom charge very large prices because a significant number of their customers are (1) young and inexperienced, (2) funded by mom and dad and (3) figure they can get away with it. Long Shop does not do these things- unfornately they are located well away from town. Our repair rates have been cut in half since we started going there and they have NEVER messed up.

Terry's place is a bit out of the way for most people, but it's worth it! I've had horrible experiences with mechanics in the past (couldn't even diagnose a bad alternator...), but Terry and co. are the BEST! I've never paid any unreasonable cost, and he definitely goes out of the way to find affordable parts, etc. Terry's ethics as a mechanic really showed when he once misdiagnosed a minor problem on my husband's car and replaced a part that didn't need it (a $20 part, mind you...not a big deal). When he discovered his mistake, he fixed the problem AND did not charge my husband any labor the next time he brought his car in. I highly recommend this mechanic to anyone in the area.

These guys are the only mechanics I truly trust!!

There are two big reasons I am strongly attached to where I
live, the local elementary school and these guys. Terry and
crew are the GREATEST! I have never had to leave my car
overnight - and this includes some fairly extensive
repairs. They never tried to take advantage of the fact
that I (at times) have been a 'flustered chick' who just
walked in and said 'fix it, please.' They don't carry
synthetic oil but charge me a nominal rate to do an oil
change if I bring my own in. Maybe it's because I'm a
regular, or maybe it's because I butter them up with bass
fishing books at Christmas, but they're great for not
charging a whole hour's labor fee when I show up in need of
a 10 min. adjustment. Even though they are probably not of
my political persuasion, they laugh like heck at my bumper
stickers. And they only laughed a little when I took out 20
feet of cattle fencing with my old Taurus and drove it the
40 miles back to their garage with a busted tie rod.

As a retired track mechanic who never lets anyone work on
my vehicles, I use them excluseivly for state inspections.
They have never failed any vehicle which did not deserve
to fail. I have also seen them go out of their way to help
foreign students(considered fair game by local clip shops)
engineer simple solutions to expensive problems. I also
know a heavy equipment mechanic who can not stand having
others work on his personal vehicles, actually lets them
on his wife's car.

I took my 94 chevy blazer to them with a problem I had
tried unsuccessfully to fix for two months and they got it
the first day. They called me back when promised and
explained the problem in detail and didn't preasure me.
They are a little of the beaten path but you have to
decide if you want to get your car fixed in town and pay
way to much or take a little drive to the country and get
your car fixed for a fair price while being treated with
respect.

Very honest. Fixed my steering noise problem with no charge.
He was not sure how engine vibrations occur in my car and to
fix it; so he did not charge me anything.
