One thing I hated to leave behind in Dallas was Ray's
Belmont Garage! I hope I will eventually find as good and
reasonable a mechanic here in Austin. My friend had been
going to Ray for years with her Sentra and sent me to him
when I arrived as a Hurricane Katrina evacuee with AC that
wouldn't work and brakes making strange sounds. At the
time, I was planning to go right back to Louisiana after
Labor Day so he squeezed me in before the weekend and took
care of everything. I enjoyed chatting with him, too, about
the many trips he and his wife had taken to New Orleans. I
went back to him several times during the 8 months I stayed
in Dallas (my car is 13 years old and has issues) and every
experience was pleasant and the work was always done right
and done quickly. I am female and felt he explained things
clearly and treated me with respect and courtesy.

Whenever the Ford dealer tells me something needs to be
replaced immediately, I'll take it to Ray Lewis for a
second opinion. He either fixes it for less or tells me
there isn't a problem at all.

I took my car here after my dealer who usually services my car said I needed new valve cover gaskets (and a bunch of other stuff), plus a new oil pan gasket which had been replaced in April 2011. I had posted my problem on the Community page ["Replacing valve cover gaskets on 2001 Mercury Sable"], where the verdict was to seek a second opinion. Today I did, and Belmont told me I needed none of the above work, that my problem (a burning smell) was due to oil leaking from the filter and from changing that filter last January. Saved me many $$$$, and I now have a place to service my car whom I trust far more than my previous place.
