These guys are great! Very witty and smart people. Anecdote: I had take my Nissan in to deal with an oil leak. They had a look and said that I needed an expensive seal replaced. Also, because of what they had to remove to get at the seal they said I might as well get my timing chain/belt replaced too. I agreed, gave them my credit card number and prayed that it was no more that the 400 or so dollars they quoted. Two hours later they called back and said they didn't need to do either after all. They fixed the leak and charged me 150 bucks (mostly labor). NOTE: I had agreed to the expensive service and gave them my credit card number. They could have charged me and I would have never known but they didn't. This is a sign of great honesty and professionalism on their part. Their work is excellent and they don't charge you for things that don't need fixing.

We just moved to Houston and had a trusted mechanic back home. We were afraid we would have to go through a few shops before we found someone we could trust. On the first try, we went to Hare Repair. The shop is very friendly and they have a great sense of humor (kinda like the Car Talk guys!). They looked at my pick-up, assessed the problem (or really, lack thereof) and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. They even recommended a quick fix for one issue that I can do myself! I will be going back to these guys!

John doesn't recommend repair until it is needed. Then he expains the options. He has regularly protected me from spending more on repairs than I need to. Very competent. Friendly

Great guys that have talked to me honestly about what does and does not need to be fixed on my car. The understand that money is an issue and most people can't just pay to have every little thing fixed on the car that probably needs it.

I've been taking my old cars there since 1995. The owners, Eric & Jim, have always treated me fairly and have always tried to save me money, especially when money was tight, for which I am grateful. They themselves work on the cars and their other mechanics have been with them for many years. Note: At the time I added this comment, Car Talk didn't show the shop's address. It's 5815 Star Lane, 77057. That's a just couple of minutes from the Chimney Rock exit on 59.

Love these guys! Honest, dependable, kind, knowledgable, well-priced & don't treat me differently because I'm a woman. I recommend them to every one I know. I've used them for over 5 years for two different vehicles & the work, customer service, etc is always top notch!

I found this shop on Car Talk back in 2009 and have to say this is the best car repair experience I have ever had. This may sound crazy but I almost enjoy taking my car there. Eric and Jim (and Tom, now retired) are fair, honest, have a long line of loyal repeat customer because everyone in the shop is competent and very entertaining. I have been taking my Mazda Protégé 5 2002 there since 2009 and will keep taking it there until it literally falls apart....I always leave happy, laughing.
