My son's car broke down in Denton, TX which is about 70 miles from where he lives. When he called me, I orginally told him to tow it to the nearest garage. It ended up at one of those national chains. Their diagnosis was that it needed a new distributor to the tune of $700.00. The other alternative was to have it towed back to Dallas, which would cost $200.00 just for the tow. So I went to the Car Talk Mechan-X-Files and found Dave's Foreign Car Service. When I called, the mechanic said that perhaps a kit would be sufficient. While I was on the phone, he called the Acura dealer and determined that the kit would cost about $245.00. I told him I would advise my son to have his car towed to his shop. I called my son and he did just that. As it turned out, it was the coil that needed to be replaced and the entire charge amounted to approximately $270.00. We were very pleased with the way we were treated and the manner in which the work was performed. We recommend Dave's highly. The shop is located at 400 South Elm Street in Denton, TX. The phone number is 940-387-2886.

Dave's. Absolutely Dave's. They are busy; but when I have been told to bring my car in on Tuesday, they (unlike other places) work on it and fix it on Tuesday, by golly. They bring me home if I have to leave my car/pick me up when the car is ready. I don't discover the a.c. on HIGH with all the vents pointed at my face when I get back in my car, and my radio is tuned (volume on low) to classical or jazz. It is one of the most polite and considerate businesses in town, in addition to being the most reliable and competent car repair shop in Denton County.

After many years of dealing with Dave and the gang, I can assure the masses that a better shop does not exist. The key words are: integrity, compassion, excellence, affordable.

Dave's is the best auto shop I have ever found. Before I found out about Dave's I had bad experiences with every place I took my car. About 10 years ago a friend told me about Dave's I took my car there and found them to be honest, competent, friendly, professional, and fair. From that day forward I have always taken my car there. They give good advice, and are really concerned with doing the best thing for you. They do tend to be busy but will fix you car when they tell you they will. My only regret is that I have now move to Galveston and must start the search for a mechanic shop like Dave's all over again.

These guys know their stuff, AND are completely honest. Don't expect the Hilton's appearance, but expect the Hilton's service. Thanks for all your help in the past guys, I just moved to Arlington, and it was like loosing our family doctor.

I called Car Talk about this a few years back. I had a Nissan 200sx with a 12 volt surge through the CPU.The car thought it was starting all the time and jerked while you were driving. They could not find the source of the surge. Even a new CPU didn't fix the problem. They soldered a 12 volt light bulb into the circuit to absorb the surge! The car ran great for years. They did not charge me becuase they never found the cause of the surge. I sold it (along with extra bulbs) with 281,000 miles on it and it was purring like a kitten. They should be commended for thier perseverance and unique solution to this strange problem. Ask for Dave Thomas...he is a master!

My 1991 Volvo was making a terrible noise and getting hot, so I took it to Dave's. I was really hoping it wouldn't need a new water pump,or other expensive repair, but it seemed like it might. It was pretty noisy. Dave took the time to listen to the symptoms I had noticed and then once I left my car there to correctly diagnose the problem. He then explained the options and that I should start out with the simplest, less expensive repair first, as he thought that would likley fix it. And it did cure my vehicle, plus they fixed up some minor things too, at no charge. My car was repaired for the estimate Dave provided, on time and they provided a free ride home for me. When I picked the Volvo up Dave went over the repair with me: I could tell that he really likes to help people, is very knowledgable, is a good mechanic and runs his business the way he would want to be treated. This is a superior repair shop, I highly recommend it. Dr. Dave can fix your car too!

They will take the time to explain the problems and necessary repairs, IF YOU WANT THEM TO! If you ask, they will answer with clear and concise explanations. If you don't ask, they won't bore you or try to snow you with stuff you don't want to know. Either way, the service is great and customer treatment is the best. Jim in Denton
