Zeagler's only repairs American cars. I'm a woman used to being talked-down even though I have a fair body of knowledge about how cars work and like to learn more with each visit. Mr. Zeagler has never given me the "now listen little lady" schtick, and he also will explain the problem in plain language. In addition, he's honest! I once had a problem that he told me could have 2 possibilities, the first being very inexpensive and the other being more than $100. He wanted to try the cheap option to SAVE ME MONEY. all right!

I took my car to Ralph Zeaglers for the first time several years ago when I was fed up with the terrible experiences I had with the Dick Smith service center, the dealership from which I purchased this car. It's a 94 Maxima & has been a great car. I had my car towed to Zeaglers on someone else's recommendation & because it was close to work. My problem turned out to be nothing more than the dealerships failure to fully disengage the on-lot security which had locked down my car. Mr. Zeagler charged me for just an hour of his time to find the problem. I am a single female & know he could have told me anything & presented me w/a huge bill & I would have been none the wiser. I was so impressed that I have become a loyal customer for years now & would not take my car anywhere else. He always has returned my car quickly & w/the problem corrected, which was something at which Dick Smith Nissan failed miserably. I also know his prices are good. I had Dick Smith replace a regulator/regulater for a power window & later needed Zeaglers to replace the same part in a different window. Big price difference.

We have 3 cars and probably will obtain a 4th for a son in college. Mr. Zeigler has always been available to tow if necessary and repair our cars in a timely manner. Repair is what I want on our cars and not to what is the easiest which may be to remove and replace with new parts. One of our cars is a 1991 and has about 120,000 miles and gets my wife to work. I don't want high cost repairs on a car this old. I am in sales and depend on my car to visit clients and can not be off the road for long periods of time. Mr. Zeigler keeps my car going without time lost. He has done everything from replace tires, change oil, repair brakers, replace the transmission etc. Now on the oldest car he will now become a problem solver. When the car is off and parked the headlights mysterly come on. Cut off and they come on again. I am confident he will solve even this problem.

I first went to Mr. Zeagler on a friend's recommendation. She had told me that he was careful to explain what needed to be done immediately and what could safely wait until a more convenient time. I have found this to be true, and my husband and I have been very pleased. Among other things, he has replaced my clutch and recently replaced my badly worn engine entirely with a low-mileage engine at a reasonable price. Although he seems to have a heavy workload based on the number of cars coming and going from his lot, the work has always been completed in a timely manner. He has a reassuring, almost fatherly demeanor and takes the time to explain what he is doing in plain language. I feel very comfortable asking questions. Plus, he has a couple of office cats lounging around, excellent for taking some of the edge off an unexpected repair.

I am truly sorry to say that I can no longer recommend the shop. They are very lovely people, extremely popular, and I had been pleased with their many previous servicings. But I have used this CarTalk rating site myself in several cities, and it's how I found this shop, so I feel some obligation to disclosure. The shop made an egregious error in diagnosis (head needs replacing) that nearly cost me what would have been a devastating sum. Very fortunately, a friend intervened and told me to take the car somewhere else. It was very uncomfortable to pick the car up, and the owner was slightly aggressive in questioning me about my reasoning. It turned out that the car's timing chain was the problem and the repair was about $1000 less. And of course, I didn't have to pay for two repairs instead of only the one that was actually necessary. Saddened, but saved.

Very sorry to add a negative review for a shop I used happily for many years. But an extremely costly misdiagnosis came at a critical time, such that I was saved from having a head needlessly replaced by the fact that I simply had no funds, and turned to a friend for help. He told me several times to take my car back and go to another shop, while I argued about how much I liked Zeagler's, how nice and honest they were, how so very many people I knew used and raved about them. Finally he told me that it wasn't a matter of honesty but of competence, and that they many times used a trial-and-error method of repair when they were not sure. Not a terribly big deal if a small matter, but when the estimate is $2500, this is a serious problem. Unfortunately, when I went to take the car, as discretely and non-confrontationally as possible, Mr. Zeagler showed a less nice side of himself, pushing me to tell him why, and being defensive and argumentative. It was unpleasant and embarrassing, and, again, unhappy because I had liked them very much. The other shop quickly diagnosed a timing chain problem, repaired it it for a far smaller cost, and the car was fixed. There WAS no problem with the head, the timing chain was bad, and if I had left it with Zeagler's I would have had at the very least those two costs and never known the difference.
