Bob Andrews Motors has repaired cars for my father and I for over 35 years. They have been patient with my children when they drove without fan belts or oil (and called for help), helped me find used cars and told me honestly that I have made some bad decisions about cars in the past, and even when they are baffled with a problem. On several occasions they have checked a car out for a day and then refused to accept payment because "we aren't sure that what we did will solve the problem"...truly a rare breed.

Bob Andrews and his son, Mike, have been servicing cars for my father (and me, when I got my own car) for close to 20 years now. I have found them both (as well as the other mechanics in their employ) to be unfailingly honest and all- around nice people. They do a very thorough job, spotting potentially serious problems (e.g., cracked axles) before they become critical. Cars they have serviced (in no particular order) for my father include a Dodge Caravan, Buick Century, Datsun 510, Ford Econoline Van, and a Honda Civic for me. Unfortunately, the location of their business borders on some not-so-nice areas of Columbia, but even so their popularity is such that they are usually quite busy. In addition, don't expect Jiffy-Lube prices on oil changes, etc.--you do pay a bit extra for the quality and honesty. That's ok in my book, though.

They are friendly, and seem to have competent mechanics.
The fact that they are always busy is good, but it is a
little inconvenient to leave the car for a day to get an
oil change. However they do check over the car thoroughly
when they change the oil, and that helps to spot potential
problems before they happen.
Overall, they seem to be a better than average repair shop.

I had the privilege of working at Bob Andrews Motors
throughout high school, and experienced how a truly
exceptional garage functions day to day. My Dad has trusted
the mechanics and the management for the last 30 years and
if you want the best for your car, believe me their the
BEST! Greeting customers with a smile and by their first
names, they're happy to hear the problem and more times then
not already know how to fix it. Try Bob Andrews once and I
promise you want be disappointed, and your car will have a
longer life!

I had just moved into the area when my transmission
linkage quit working. I asked four persons in my
neighborhood who to go to get it repaired and all said Bob
Andrews. I called them and from that first hello on the
phone until the time I picked up the car, it was the best
experience I had from a repair shop. They are friendly,
professional, and what a clean shop. Add to that they
know how to repair a car and repair it right the first
time, it is no wonder that the yard is filled each day
with lots of cars to be repaired. Two locations in the
Columbia area, so no excuse to get the best to repair your
car.

The manager at the St. Andrews location, Steve Kirkland, is
most accomodating and helpful.

My car died on wife in a cloud of smoke on the interstate
about 65 miles away from this shop (about 150 miles from
home). She called me at work for a solution - I quickly
looked on Mechanics Files for a place to have car towed to.
I found this shop which had several positive comments so I
decided to give it a try. I was very happy with their
service and professionalism even though my repairs cost
$2600. They were very careful to go over details of
repairs and honest in their estimate. I am truly grateful
to find such good mechanics and to have the Mechanics Files
resource - what a life saver!

I am new to Columbia and used the Car Talk site to find Bob
Andrews Motors to work on my 2002 Chevy Malibu. Their
service is great, their shop is clean, and they are
extremely helpful. Once they identified that I needed a new
catalytic converter, the work was complete that day. When I
went in to pay and the price differed from what was quoted
to me on the phone, they apologized and charged me the
quoted amount! Their honesty really impressed me, and my car
is running beautifully. They even called me the next day to
ask how the car was performing, which shows me they care
about their customers and follow through with their work.
Thanks for this site, Car Talk, and to anyone in the
Columbia area looking for a good mechanic, I highly
recommend Bob Andrews Motors - I'll definitely be taking my
car to them for future services.

I switched to Bob Andrews a few years ago because they gave a summer internship to a friend of my son. They have worked on multiple vehicles multiple times and I trust them completely. I recently had major car trouble out of town (100 plus miles) and called Bob Andrews and they did an extensive telephone conversation knowing they would not get the work and they saved me a large sum of money because I listened to them. They are my go to source for all things automotive.
