Danny Coren is the owner of Narragansett Auto Repair. He or one of his employees has worked on my cars (and also those of friends and aquaintances) and his shop is one of the best in this area. He is a RI Inspection Station which is handy also. My personal experience is that Danny is competent to work on all different makes of vehicles. One of this shop's strongest points is that they are quick to diagnose the problem(s)and do not throw parts at a problem until it is fixed. The prices are very reasonable. The shop is in a sort of industrial setting and is not "squeaky clean" but if you want an automotive problem fixed right and reasonably this is the place to go. If you can't get there he also operates Jack's Towing Inc.

Problem: Single sr.lady w/vintage Tempo, muffler getting noisy, coping w/bronchitis (dr's appt next day), weekend looming...where to go? Solution: Check CarTalk site, read above recommendation, call and was told to "drop by anytime". Result: One very happy senior citizen whose muffler was fixed that afternoon (no problem trying to juggle dr.appt. and repair the next day). Danny and his crew were professional, efficient and personable. Price was reasonable, and I'm still stunned that it was fixed so quickly (since I usually drive older cars, am familiar w/the "we'll have to check to see if parts are available" bit. Looking forward to taking my Tempo back to Narragansett Auto for its inspection and any other "fix- ups" required.

Went in for an inspection after finding them on this site. Over the phone she was nice and helpful. When I arrived a young man was helping me. He didn't seem super competent but figured it is fine, just a state inspection. He then told me my brakes failed inspection and needed to be replaced. I know quite a lot about cars and have been doing my own maintenance work my entire life, and these pads were just replaced at the dealer before purchasing. I knew for a fact he hadn't really checked the brakes, I had been watching him. I asked him to describe the problem, to let him dig himself in. He said he checked with his fingernail, and I saw him looking in the wrong place. After I described to him how he was wrong he said "Oh, I messed up, they seem fine now". Then a woman (from the phone) came over and directed him to go clean up his mess outside and another man came over and finished the test in about 60 seconds. I don't know the situation; maybe he is a guy they are trying to help out. Maybe I should have told her at the time about what he tried to say to me, but I had 2 kids with me and needed to go. I will not chance it and won't be going back.
