Real German car (+Subaru) enthusiasts, keep in touch with what's going on, reasonable, never make you feel they're doing you a favor by working on your car, explain everything and steer you away from expensive and maybe not needed work. Will use them again for my 2001 BMW 325i.

Jesse at Banchwerks is great. He is a brilliant young automotive wunderkind and does a great job of explaining what he is going to do, what he doesn't need to do, and why. He treats you with respect whether you are a car expert or novice, male or female. Although he has an assistant, he pretty much runs the shop by himself, and since he has a lot of work and is a pretty casual guy (a bit of an absent-minded professor at times), he is sometimes not the speediest in getting through your job, though he is very competent and does great work for cheaper than anyone else in town. He's also nicer and smarter than any mechanic I've met. They specialize in German cars and Subarus, but they say they will do anything. He serviced my girlfriend's 2003 VW Golf for a fuel injector problem, along with some shocks work and getting it ready for RI inspection, and did so thoroughly and at a reasonable price. They also specialize in supping up racing VWs and Subys and also convert and race biodiesel cars, so definitely check out his shop and pick his brain if that's your thing. They have regular barbecue events and pizza parties at the shop over the summer that (I think) are open to regular customers--not a common thing among most auto mechanics. He's a brilliant, young independent mechanic getting his own business off the ground and worth checking out.
