Good people. Good work. They keep an eye on the whole vehicle and keep you apprised of repairs that might not be needed at the moment but will be necessary soon. I trust them entirely.

The shop has worked on our VWs for the past 10 years. We have had no problem with their work. They are technically proficient and knowledgeable about German automotive systems. Two of the local VW dealers actually call on them regularly to solve problems. I would highly recommend them to anyone with a foreign car.

I've been going to this shop for almost 5 years now. I trust these guys completely. The owners are car nuts, and really care about doing a good job.

When I lived in Philadelphia, I brought both my 2000 VW Passat and my wife's 2001 Subaru Outback there for various services from the mundane (routine maintenance) to the intensive (sports suspension/brake replacement). It's a family-owned business, and I cannot stress how well they treat their customers. They are honest, good natured and understanding and do excellent work at a fair price. If I were still living in Philly, I would still be taking my cars to them.

Several years ago, I was searching for a shop that would work on a 1988 BMW E30. I found Woodlawn through the "Click and Clack" "database and called them. Jack said that he had owned and raced several E30s and that he was quite familiar with the car. In that conversation, Jack also said that they would be happy to work on my girlfriend's vintage Toyota Tercel. The first review above describes how the shop is full of German Heavy Metal, which is always true, but Jack and John were terrific about working on a pedestrian Tercel, as well. Within two visits, they even recognized Patty's voice on the phone. There was never any arrogance about working on a basic Japanese car, and they fixed several lingering problems immediately. After years of unscrupulous service from mediocre mechanics taking advantage of her lack of mechanical knowledge, Patty was thrilled to find specialists who fixed and maintained the car correctly. The Tercel came back from its first tune-up at Woodlawn with fresh grease on all of its door hinges! How often is that done these days? John always took the time to show her what they had fixed on the car. Jack and John have the passion: they are longtime, authentic amateur racers, and if you say something like "Goodwood" or "Estoril," their faces light up. They are German car specialists, however, there are also Citroens, Lotuses and Minis in the extended family. Every once in a while, one can walk into that wonderful garage and see several of the most influential cars of the last century all on the same day: DS, original Mini, 911, Lotus 7, Golf Mk 1. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the shop, either. If you are experiencing an unusual, hard-to-diagnose problem with your highly modified AWE-tuned Audi, Jack and John have the knowledge, experience and tools to get to the bottom of it. Woodlawn is an extremely busy garage, though: always plan your maintenance visits in advance. My only minor criticism is that, once in a while, they forget to fix one item on your list. I think it's a function of their heavy workload, so leaving a written list of what needs to be done on the vehicle is a smart idea. A correction on Paul S.'s review above: Woodlawn Foreign Car Service is much closer to the Chelten Avenue Station on SEPTA's R8 regional rail line (Address: West Chelten Avenue and Pulaski Avenue, 19144). The Chelten Avenue station is literally a 2-minute walk from the shop. (The Queen Lane Station is more like 15 - 20 minutes and it's up a fairly steep hill.) Also, if you like to run or cycle, it's fun to drop off your machine and then run or ride through the Wissahickon Park to get home. A favorite memory of mine is dropping off the E30, then running to the Wissahickon R6 station and taking the train to work in Conshohocken.

I currently own 6 vehicles that Woodlawn services. I have been relying upon Woodlawn exclusively (except for one bona fide "exotic" which they always suggest I take to the dealer for specialized, non-routine work) for many years. All the others, including my Porsche which is also my track car (for Porsche Club driving events) and a highly modified Audi, are solely entrusted to them (as are my family minivan, the Toyota used by my son, etc.). They have always been 100% reliable, professional and reasonable -- the sort of mechanics who will not hesitate to tell you that you don't need to do something, if that is the case. I literally feel as if I trust them with my life, especially every time I get onto the track in my Porsche. I know that both the owners (John and Jack) are genuine car enthusiasts and have extensive competition experience; they clearly work on my cars as if they were their own and were going to drive the cars themselves. P.S. The only survey question I had a hard time answering was about how they respond when they screw something up; in my experience, they haven't yet.

I posed the question like this..."I'm getting ready to take myself and my wife, on a five day, 1,000 mile road rallye (with a track day included) through the Smokies, North Carolina and VIR...make believe the car is YOURS, and you'll be taking YOUR wife on that rally in THIS car!" John's eyes widened slightly as he realized what our goals were. I was counting on their knowledge and expertise with the marque, and the way the mechanics in the shop seemed focused on the task at hand. Wheel and tire recommendations were made and followed.And from a missing screw in the door to a patch of adhesive under the hood, everything is up to snuff. The car is simply a joy to drive again. John's eagle eyes (and nimble hands) made short work of the 5 speed rebuild, and all the "I'll get them next time" items were attended to. My hat is off to this shop, you won't do better!!
