These guys specialize in Volkswagens and Audis with a love that borders on the obsessive. I know that Mike doesn't really believe that I'm a good enough person to have my 1990 Jetta -- and admittedly, Mike and his trusty helpers have kept it running for several years now. "It's a great car," he once admitted to me, "as long as YOU make sure that WE look after it." So it is, and he does.

I had brought my 88 VW Jetta to the dealership to be fixed because I thought, "They see VW's all day; they should know." I was wrong. I saw German Motors in the yellow pages and a friend highly complemented the establishment. They tried finding the problem by starting with the cheapest fix and working their way up the price ladder. The problem was fixed, and the car runs fine! It didn't cost me nearly as much as I thought.

There is only 2 people at German Motors now. Mike the owner, and Aaron. I think that they almost bend over backwards to fix my car in a timely manner. My family and myself have been going to German Motors for years and never have had any problems with the service they have to offer. I think this shop is a great asset to the Volkswagen owners in our comunity. Keep up the great work guys!

I believe german motors is one of the finest automobile repair shops i have ever been too. My 1989 16 valve White Jetta GLI needed to be repaired a couple years ago, I had blown a heater core. Luckily, Mike remembered hearing about a recall that had happened on the '89 Jetta II series vehicles on heater cores. He advised me to take to the vw dealer where i was living and they did have a recall on that cars heater core. I couldn't believe that he could refere a customer to a dealer to have the work done for free. That is just one of the amazing things that german motors and his employees have done for me and my car. They have always done the other maintenance on my cars and have done everything correct and in a quick time. To sum it all up I think the work that German motors performs is "REEEEAAAAALLLL NICE"...TJ

I've used this place for years through a Rabbit, VW Vanagon, and now a Jetta. Through it all they have been great to work with. They always look for the best way to fix something, not the most expensive way. They are happy to explain options and work with what you want done. They care about cars (of course!) and people!!

On the not-so-good side: VW parts are pricy no matter which way you slice it, so repairs can be expensive. If you want a touchy-feely expereince, that's not their strong suit. Both guys work on cars themselves, so it's all business, sometimes terse, at the counter. On the good side: These two guys are very knowledgable, explained everything I asked in detail, and stayed after hours so that I could get my car. I had a question about the technicalities of running my Golf TDI on biodesil, and they did a bunch of research to help me weigh the pros and cons. If you own a VW in Salem, you'd be foolish to go anywhere else.

Mike and Aaron have worked on a succession of VWs for me over many years. They have my complete confidence, developed after they have found simple repairs when I expected expensive ones, and finding a problem with a new Jetta that the dealer couldn't handle (it was a faulty electrical connection). They even stayed late one Friday to complete a repair for me since I needed the car for a weekend trip. Great People!!

German Motors did a pre-purchase inspection for me on a nice, used Passat and discovered the car had been in a wreck, thus saving me from a questionable purchase. They spotted the body repairs instantly, even after I had gone over the car thoroughly. I am a new loyal fan, and I don't even own a VW yet! Best money I ever spent (besides buying flowers for my wife).
