I have used Hawthorne Auto for many years. They are good people. I live on the other side of town and travel out of my way just to use them. I trust them very much.

All the mechanics at this shop are excellent. Liz and Jim own the shop and male and female mechanics work there. They diagnose problems well, explain what is wrong, and tell you when there is nothing wrong with your car. They are friendly and courteous. Their prices are a little high, but you get the best service and referrals. Honest, competent and nice.

They charge for their work, but it represents good value for the money. They are open 8 to 6 / M to F - not always convenient for the customer, but it does show consideration for their employees. It's comforting to know that I have a happy mechanic inside my car with dangerous implements. Women are well represented on their staff, including a couple of excellent mechanics. They are not perfect - but they are the best shop I have ever done business with in my 40 years of driving.

When I moved to Portland I dreamed of finding a mechanic who would make fewer mistakes than I do - a surprisingly difficult challenge back in my old SoCal neighborhood. Hawthorne Auto Clinic is that place. Jim, Liz and the entire staff are the most competent, most honest, and fairest group of mechanics I've ever met. In other words, they're in the wrong field, altogether!

My mechanics are fantastic! I have never trusted a garage as much as I do the folks at Hawthorne Auto Clinic. Here are a few of the things I appreciate most about them: - they can always get my car in right away, even though they are always busy - they usually finish even large jobs in one day - they communicate with me throughout the process - when they're finished, they go over what they have done, including a complete and very clear print-out of every move they made, and every part or service for which they are charging me - the company is owned by a husband/wife team; there are a number of female mechanics/managers; they always treat me with respect and don't try to talk down to me - they are environmentally conscious and have won a number of environmental and community awards - they refer me to other shops when those shops could do the job better or substantially cheaper - they offer me advice on car issues that have nothing to do with them - they are ALWAYS pleasant to work with The only minuses are: They aren't open late or on weekends, and they don't have loaner cars (but they will give you bus tickets) They are a wonderful business and group to work with.

I second the comments above...Jim Hauser is the most amazing auto shop owner I have ever worked with. He is also the best Fiat mechanic in the Rose City. A genuine enthusiast, he keeps those Spiders and X1/9s on the road here. In my case, he has taken care of what is likely the only Fiat 128 sedan left in town. Highly, highly recommended. MikeR
