Having moved to Portland in May '11, I had left my highly
rated (on Car Talk web) auto repair garage (Creek Auto)
back in Swartz Creek, Michigan. I "intended" to do a pre-
check of Car Talk rated auto repair services in Portland.
But, you know how those "gonna get around to it" things get
put off. 2 weeks ago, I'm taking a nice sunny morning drive
in my Miata, top down, when the water pump blows a leak. AAA
tows me back to my apartment and as the car is being
unloaded, 2 mechanics come walking back to their garage
with coffee from a local shop. I had noticed over the
previous few weeks these guys painting and fixing up a
garage next door, but no sign or evidence of an actual
place of business yet. As they saw my car being unloaded,
they stopped and asked if it needed work done and that they
were just opening for repair biz and could get it in right
away. So, I took the plunge with them. They were
EXCELLENT: Gave me clear description of the problems, wrote
an estimate clearly stating the expected charges, let me
know right away when they found other minor problems that
should be attended to. Their actual repairs came in $110
lower than the estimate. My Miata is 20 yrs old, but in
great shape with only 72,000 actual miles. I will trust
Curtis and Ben at Gassers to continue work on it when
needed. They also appear to have a big service area for
motorcyles.

I needed brake work done and heard of this place from a
friend. I've always been a bit leery of mechanics and shops,
but the two owners basically brought me right into the shop
and brought out the parts they had replaced to show me the
wear and damage that was present, basically giving me a short
course on how braking systems work and what sort of wear is
normal for certain mileages. I left paying a bit under the
estimate, and with quality replacement parts. These guys have
a great thing going and I'll be back soon.

Ben and Curtis at Gassers Garage are the best! I love that they're honest about what work needs to be done right away and what doesn't. They get repairs done as quickly and cheaply as possible and do a great job every time. Portland might be a big city, but these guys are running a small town garage.
