Great shop. I just wish they weren't all the way on the other end of Springfield/Eugene from me. But, it's worth the drive.

Gary's has been working on Subarus for over 30 years. He is really a Subaru Guru. His crew is great, the shop is big and set up for Subaru repair. He has a big Boxer dog that looks like the happiest dog in the world, he is very friendly and always greets you with tail wagging. Gary is the type of guy that will tell it like it is and I love that. The shop rate is reasonable, they are open Monday thru Thursday, so keep that in mind when you call. I have had four Subarus in the past twenty years and Gary has kept them running for me, I could not imagine taking my suby any where else. If you are looking for honesty, respect and integrity in a mechanic this is the place.

I heard it was the best Sube place in town, and that seems accurate. I MUCH prefer it to the dealer.

I bought a Subaru from Gary that he had rebuilt the motor on and provided a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty at his shop OR ANY reputable shop (since I lived out of town). Within the first day of having the car the radiator needed to be replaced, which came out of my pocket. Within 10 days of having the car it ended up being towed back to his shop due to a failed crank shaft, which took him a month to fix. He told me I could come pick it up cause it was running great, the next day the check engine light came on again and when I had it diagnosed at another shop it was found to have an internally leaking head gasket (from what they said looked to be from him not milling the head when he replaced it), along with broken and missing bolts, he did not clip everything back together properly in the engine, he had used aftermarket non OEM parts, As well as he zip tied on a part cause he broke the bolt.... The other shop recommended replacing the engine as a whole due to the previously (shoddy) work done, as they wouldn't be able to warranty their own work if they tried to fix it, with all the previous work done. They even informed me that they were absolutely astonished when they opened the hood, as they couldn't believe that ANY mechanic would allow that to leave their shop and that another mechanic in his shop had heard of Gary's horrible work through friends. Gary will not honor the warranty as he is trying to say that the only way head gaskets fail is if the car is ran while overheating, therefore it is not covered under the warranty and since he has refused to answer calls or emails from me or my husband.... Unfortunately head gaskets can also fail for numerous other reasons, such as the mechanic not getting the head milled when it should have been, using NON OEM parts AND/OR the mechanic not rebuilding the engine correctly...He was the last person to open the head on the car to fix the crankshaft, and all the work on the vehicle that was supposedly warrantied (Which is documented on the bill of sale and the repair receipts), yet the next day when things go wrong he will not stand by his work/word or even offer to correct his mistakes. I suggest that anyone who is thinking about going to him, go somewhere else otherwise you will be taken advantage of, lied to, ripped off and possibly lose more money to hire lawyers. I called the Better Business Bureau and filed a warranty/mechanic complaint, he ignored their notices. His last name.... SWINDLER, is truly what he is..
