I know virtually nothing about cars and have no auto-savvy males in my life, which means I'm a sitting duck for unscrupulous mechanics. Thus is was almost a spiritual experience the first time I went to Dan and the bill was far under his cautious estimate. He has never taken advantage of my ignorance or desperation, and I recommend him to EVERYONE I know who needs a mechanic. Once I left a library book in the main office and his wife, who runs the office, called to tell me I'd left it there and that it was due the next day. Now THAT is customer service. Thanks, Dan and crew!!

You can search far and wide. You won't find a better car
shop.

I just retrieved my car from the first visit to Dan
Hutton's and I'm so impressed with their honesty. I'd
almost given up, after seven years in the area, of finding
someone who wasn't just trying to get the most money for
doing the least good. I'll let you know if the problem is
fixed once there's been time to evaluate, but I'll be
awfully surprised if it isn't all taken care of.

I took my car for what I thought was a CV joint problem and
turned out to be loose nuts (a side from those in my head!).
They called me up really fast and it was ready to be picked
up in a jiffy, and they charge you for fractional time. They
are very nice to deal with. I'll come back always.

In a business where the car owner is usually at the mercy of the mechanic, Dan
and his wife have always provided competent, timely, and above all HONEST
work. I have never felt I was taken advantage of, nor have I ever left without a
thorough explanation of what was repaired and why (even why no repair was
necessary). If I can't describe the problem clearly enough, Dan will take the time
to hop behind the wheel with me in the car to try it out for himself. He's also a
great diagnostician who has more than forty years of experience in the
business, so he's pretty much seen it all. If I want it done cheaply, I can take it
elsewhere, but if I want it done right the first time, I definitely take it to Dan.
For the past ten years or more, son Bo Hutten has been taking more of a active
role in the shop, and he's following his parents' model of terrific neighborhood
business. Looks like my cars will be seeing the Huttens for years to come.

Dan is both very competent and very honest. I have told him in the past that his
prices are unusually low.
The only issue I've ever had with Dan was when I asked him to replace some
part prior to a long trip, and he didn't because he said the vehicle didn't need it
replaced yet.

When I first moved to Oxford I asked someone who I should
take my car to to fix a problem with the throttle. All
four people I asked all said to bring it to Dan Hutten. It
was the right move.
The problem -- which they figured out quite easily -- was
that the cable to the throttle was getting stuck in its
housing. They managed to get it apart, lubricate it, and
replace the assembly without needing to buy any parts. I'm
certain that most mechanics -- assuming they correctly
diagnosed the problem -- would simply have replaced the
cable. But Dan felt that they could fix it and that it
would be cheaper. He was right on both counts.
This is the only shop I will go to in Oxford for anything
that needs repair. Dan himself suggested that I not bring
the car to them for routine maintainance (such as an oil
change) because it would be cheaper and faster to get that
done at a Quick Lube or Walmart. I was very surprised that
he would turn down business, but he was genuinely
interested in saving my time and money.
I have lived in six different states and have known some
pretty good mechanics (and more than enough bad ones), but
I have no doubt whatsoever that Dan Hutten is the best of
the bunch.
If you live within 25 miles of Oxford, and you have a
serious problem with your car, take it to Dan Hutten.

My daughter moved out of state after graduating from college. We told her she
needs to find a shop like Dan's. Honest & professional. We've been loyal
customers for 14 years!
