Very competent and honest mechanics:owning a Ford, I've had many, many experiences with them and have always been satisfied.(My Taurus has 200,000 miles on it!)

Rick helped me out with the used car from hell. He kept my 85 Nissan at his shop for almost a week. The carberator was having problems. Rather than just presenting the option of a new or rebuilt carberator, Rick looked for a used carb and eventually cleaned and reassembled the existing carb saving me hundreds of dollars. He was more than fair on charging for the work.

I bought a used Escort from him. He charged a fair price for it, and even fixed a couple of minor problems I had with it for free or a very reasonable price. On another occasion, he examined a problem I was having with another car and sent me away without charge and to another reputable place for a tire, saving me money. I would much rather have an honest mechanic who wants me to come back than someone who's just interested in making as much off me as possible.

A few years back, I owned two Hondas with a combined age of 24 years. Rick kept both of these cars on the road at a reasonable cost.

Rick replaced the carburetor on my 17 year old son's (almost)classic 1977 Plymouth Sport Fury and dropped the car off at our house without being asked. Rick called a few days later to see how the Fury was running. Rick always took the time to explain things in a simple, straightforward manner and kept his word regarding returning phone calls and completing the repairs.

On a dollar volume, I guess I'd say my MG Midget is the primary car they've worked on. They also worked on my VW Rabbit until I brought it in one day and the mechanic said, pointing to another car in the garage, "That's a used car." He turned to my Rabbit and said, "That's used up." Now, consider that my VW needed $400 in repairs and could have used another $400 to fix some problems that were non- threatening. They could have put their kids through college working on this car. I've thrown them some real challenges keeping the VW going and then getting the MG back up and running. On my later cars (Toyota Rav 4, previously Eagle Summit, and Subaru G10 before that) they were always competent and reasonable about what should be done. I only live a few blocks away, so I hope the neighborhood is safe! I've been going to Hollis Automotive for about 12 years. If I doubted their honesty or competence, I'd have been gone a long time ago. You don't list their address. It's 2180 Lee Rd.

The only downside to Hollis is that I have to take time off work when my car needs fixing because they don't have weekend hours and close before I can get there during the week. That's led me to sometimes go somewhere else. I usually end up having to take it back to Hollis anyway to get it fixed right.

Mr. Hollis has been doing all the routine maintenance on both of our jeeps for the past 3-4 years. His prices are very competitive. He is honest and highly knowledgable. I've recommended him to several people.
