I first met Allan Smith (owner) when my first clunker
refused to accellerate when the gas pedal was depressed.
As a female, I was reluctant to go to a mechanic on my
own, but I had no choice. At the time, his was the
closest facility. Given what seemed a major problem with
the car, I fully expected to get an estimate starting at
about $1,500.00 - which, of course, I could not afford.
Allan took the car out for a short ride. After arriving
back at the garage, he spent a few minutes under the hood
and emerged with the following info: (paraphrase) "There's
a small plastic piece that has broken off. It's actually
part of a larger piece that (given the make, model and age
of the car) doesn't pay to have shipped in. I can fashion
a piece that should hold for a while, but you really need
a new car." He fashioned the piece; it actually held out
for almost another year. He charged me nothing.
From that day on he was the mechanic of choice for me, my
mom and anyone needing a mechanic recommendation.
He and Dale (a long time employee) don't hesistate to say -
'We don't do this kind of work, but here's someone (who
won't rip you off) who does'. On several occassions, when
my mom or I were in situations where we had to rely on
another mechanic, without being asked to do so, he'd call
the mechanic and tell them what he knows the repairs
recommended SHOULDN'T cost. And, he would make clear that
everything they may have recommended, isn't necessarily
immediately needed. Allan and Dale were MY mechanics for
over 10 years.
My mom, dad and sister passed on within the last 2 1/2
years. My children and I have recently moved to Atlanta,
GA, partly to get away from all of the reminders of our
loss. When I left NY, leaving behind my church family and
my mechanics, honestly, were my only regrets.

Preparing to take my son's car south, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on.
Oh, Brother ! Called Allan at Gibralta at 8AM, and explained the service engine light situation. He says bring it over. 1 hour later I show up, he connects the car to the diagnostic reader - and two minutes later, Allan says, "You have nothing to worry about." Turns out, that there was a minor fume leak, associated with the gas cap. He reset the Service Engine Soon light, and didn't charge me anything.
This could have easily turned into a moneyed expense, had I gone to a dishonest mechanic. Allan is affable, knowledgable and experienced. As the account I just cited, demonstrates - this is a mechanic who is trustworthy.
I'd highly recommend him , without reservation.
