Russ is the most honest car mechanic, for that matter human being I have ever met. I lived in Utica and took my cars to him for 10 years. I moved out of state and have used several mechanics that came recommended by friends since then. I have never met another mechanic that could pass the gold standard Russ Schmidt set.

My car was giving me the same problem over and over again. I took it to Monroe...mistake, they replaced the fuel filter and that helped for a day. Next was Ray's garage, he replaced the cad. converter and in the process broke the brake line and charged me for it...jerk. Later on this same problem re-occured and I was getting a little annoyed. I took it to Oriskany Garage, they diagnosed the problem and fixed it once. It was the computer. $35.00 fix, I had paid more than 5 times that with the other 2 supposed fixes.

Russ is the local god of mechanics. EVERYBODY

I have been taking my car ('95 Saturn) and my daughters' cars ('92 Mazda Protege and '87 Mercury Marquis) cars to Russ for two years now. I don't think there is a better garage on the planet. They have been able to take care of everything we have needed and always find a way to make it affordable. The parade of car owners there on any day spans the spectrum from wealthy to barely making it, from 17 years old to 87 years old, men, women, black, white, brown. Everyone is treated with respect. Just sitting in the waiting area is fun!!

Russ is the god of auto repair. He deftly conducts his shop and staff like an orchestra. Unyieldingly honest, incomparably competent, just plain nice. His reputation is beyond compare. Talk to anybody involved in the local auto industry, they all know Russ, and you here the, (frequently jealous), respect. Go to OG&T, you will see.

I'm a single female, and Oriskany Garage is the only one I'll trust with my car. On more than one occasion, they've done minor checks and repairs for free. Very often they'll advise me of a future problem that's will likely result in a repair but for the time being, we keep an eye on it. In other words, if they tell me it needs fixing, I have it done, because I trust their judgment. Or they'll tell me, let's keep an eye on it...it's not unsafe, but will need repair in the future. They don't push me to repair things that don't need it yet, just to make some money. Other comments on here about Russ and Oriskany Garage are right on.

If it's not broken, Russ won't fix it. I'm never afraid to send someone to him and to "use my name".

My car broke down in the middle of a 600 mile trip. I found Oriskany Garage (with the assistance of someone who had access to a computer and the internet) via the Car Talk reviews. Even though the garage was packed and it was about 30 minutes before closing, the employees there still looked at the car and diagnosed the problem. They even stayed an hour beyond closing time that day to fix the problem, so that I didn't have to rent a car to continue my trip. Since I still had to get to my destination that day, my only other option would have been to rent a car from the nearby Enterprise. It was simply mindblowing that they would be willing to stay overtime to help out a poor stranded person. I am eternally grateful to them and would highly recommend them to everyone. Russ and his employees really went above and beyond. This is a truly exceptional mechanic.

Uncle Russ is the closest thing to having Tom or Ray work on your car, without having to go to Cambridge. Not kidding. His team works on your car with your best interest at heart. He does not own a boat.

I was once a fan of this shop, however their willingness to go around the rules sometimes leads to annoying results (my rear window had a bad motor and their repair was to tape it in the up position with duct tape to the door...lasted 2 days). The last straw was then they fixed the water pump the hose was no clamped down and damaged my belt. Their first solution was to "wax" the belt which was only a temporary solution and it was squealing w/in weeks. When I asked them to replace the belt I was charged full price for it and had to go back and fight to only get a partial refund. I don't trust them to get the job done well and I don't trust them to be fair going forward. I suggest watching your bill like a hawk if you go and better yet just be safe and chose a fair and reliable shop.
