I have used Stoffa's to help keep 3 older cars ( i.e., more than 125K miles each) in decent running shape over the past 5 years. They consistently fix what is necessary to keep them safe and on the road, but just as importantly, have always been honest in telling me when something is NOT worth spending money on given the age and longevity of the cars. These guys are fantastic at maximizing the life of your car, and honest about when it has become a money pit. The only downside--they are often booked ahead by a week or more. They will do their best to help with "emergency" repairs or unexpected problems, but are most convenient for manitenance work that you can schedule in advance.

Where to begin with Stoffa's! I am a recent college graduate-I was in Poughkeepsie for four years. Leaving college was bittersweet...because I was headed out into no-man's mechanic land! Stoffa's was fair, fast, clean, and fun. yep, you heard me right, fun. There is always an air of relaxation and good heartedness in their shop, and they're damn good mechanics. They are realistic (realized that a poor college student can't afford four new tires but reccommended that i keep an eye on them). They realize that people function in the real world with their cars, and consult with you over what desperately needs repair, and what can wait. Finally, a mechanic with a head out of his toolbox and wallet. I loved stoffa's and reccommend him to anyone. there is but one problem: they are EXTREMELY popular in the area so sometimes there is a line...but even with that fact, they were always done in less than estimated time. They are wonderful.

I took my son's girlfriend's car there on a Friday early winter evening with the engine drive belts (2 of 2) off: one broken, one just off the pulleys. I was hoping that they could diagnose the problem and perhaps fix it the next day. They immediately pulled it into a bay, determined the problem was ONLY the belts, decided they had one in stock and could get the other one from a parts supplier in a few minutes, and had the car fixed and back on the road in less than an hour. They told my son's girlfriend that she could pay "whenever it was convenient--tomorrow or Monday would be fine". They are incredible!

John and Pete Stofa are a real find. Having an auto mechanic you trust who does good work makes life a lot easier.I have never had a negative experience with this shop and have never heard a bad thing from anyone who has used them. Once when I had a clutch problem, John came by the house (about 1.5 miles away) to check it out so I could avoid a tow fee if it only needed an adjustment. No charge! The only caution is that sometimes they assume you want them to take care of the problem immediately when there might be cheaper options elsewhere (eg. cheaper tires at a discount outlet). However, I am happy to support a good local business even if it does occasionally cost a little more. In the long run I am sure I save money because they are honest and competent.

These guys are great. They diagnosed a transmission problem with my Odyssey in about 5 minutes after two trips to Honda had no result--but to save me money, they sent me back to Honda for the repair because it was under warranty. John also does body work at home, and has done excellent work for me on two occasions. The last time, after doing a beautiful and timely job on my car, he did the New York State inspection before giving it back to me because he noticed the sticker was about to expire, and ran out into the freezing rain to put windshield wiper fluid in my husband's car, no charge, when all I asked was could I buy some. They can be a little gruff on the phone, but don't be put off, this is a top-notch outfit.

Pete and John are very open and honest with customers. They diagnose and repair quickly and always explain what they found and how they fixed it. As another reviewer mentioned, their honesty extends to letting you know if a problem is not worth fixing based on the age, condition, etc. of your vehicle, as opposed to simply doing work in order to make an extra buck. These are the most highly skilled and trustworthy mechanics I've ever been to.

This is a small, family owned repair shop. I had never been then, and I was missing a side view mirror and driver side front lights were all smashed up. Mr. Stofa gave me a reasonable estimate, ordered the mirror, and even found a used Honda light to put in. I was delighted with the quickness they repaired the car (less than 24 hrs) and with the price (very reasonable). I would deffinately go here again. Just have to remember to get a cab/a friend/a family member to shuttle you to and from.

We have been going to John and Pete for at least ten years now and they are great mechanics and when I had to have the ball joint replaced and shortly after it went again because the part was defective, Stofa's redid the work at no charge even though they were only reimbursed for the part. They stand behind their work. It is necessary to schedule an appointment in advance because they are very busy.
